Rear wheel swaps/upgrades?

When I replaced my front wheel with a 954 wheel I realized how damn heavy these VTR wheels are. Are there any good rear wheel swaps? Either 5.5 (180) or 6 (190) is fine with me. Will a 929/954 rear fit?

Why would you want to put a 190 tyre on? Does'nt a 900rr rear wheel bolt up no mods, and i may be wrong but i thought the sp1 rear aswell, i'm not sure about 929/954 rear.

But yes your right about the weight of vtr wheels compared to the the 929/945 i was surprised when i changed my front to 929/vfr800 rear, but then the single sided swingarm weighs a **** load compared to the stock swingarm.

What mods did you have to make to the bike for the 954 front wheel to fit. Same size rotors?

not RC51. I don't know about the others. Staying with 5.5" would be simplest and less affect on handling. Hopefully someone will chime in with experience and also what weight differences are, if any from swapping to a wheel from an older model. I did the front end swap and have worried less about the rear wheel because I couldn't find an easy swap and I figured the lighter front would have the greatest impact on handling.

Both the rotor outside and mounting diameter are bigger. I have an entire 954 front-end.

The point is not to put a 190 tire on I'm just not ruling it out. I'm changing for weight savings and personally I don't know how much an older sportbike rim weighs. A 900rr wheel might be even heavier. I know the 929/954 is going to be feather light and it will match my front. I prefer a 180 tire but 190 doesn't bother me.

Hi Guys,

So what is the stock width of the VTR-929-954-RC51 wheel?? I am going to do a RC51 front end swap on my bike when I get home (currently in the middle east) So I will be installing an RC51 front wheel but I would like to know what I will have to do to put on a matching RC rear wheel.

Ok so I used the Search button and answered my own question. 6" for all of the above wheels, except the VTR which is 5.5. I also looked up and read the thread on the OZ wheels that are being installed on another VTR.

Thanks KC-10ENG.

I did the RC51 front end swap and used the earlier model 6 spoke wheel. On the rear I'm using a 900rr rear wheel, also 6 spoke. It's a nice match and bolts right up to the stock superhawk swingarm. I'd give you pics but of course it's not done yet...front is, rear's not.

Hey Capt.

Which clip-ons did you you use?? and did you mount them above or below the triple clamps. Is is true that the RC51 forks are the same length as the VTR ones? I know lots of questions.

I have some time on my hands over here right now so it will be easy for me to watch Ebay and pick up all of the parts that I need for the install when I get home.

I will see also if you have a thread on your front end install

Thanks KC-10ENG
