Here's a link to an old post about it, there's still a few out there that make them for the hawk. Not sure if it's mentioned in here or not but Wilbur's is another one.

I went with Penske. the shock is the basic 8991 which is upgradeable if the need comes up. Also it can be changed to fit other bikes so you just send it back and pay for the changeover.
Not a bad way to go. Why by outside the US if you get great support here.
Cost about $800.00.

3D02,

The Hagons look interesting (and less expensive). What type do you have, where are you riding, and how does it work?

Thanks

My Wilbers is model 641 and the price is $798.
Not cheap but it came with High and Low speed compression damping adjustment with 22 clicks, maybe feel better on the racetrack.
Ohlins is cheaper and more famous but doesn't have seperately high and low speed compression damping adjustment.

Don't know. I was seriously thinking of fitting my FJ1200 with one when my brother talked me out of the bike. I know from reading that a lot of the FJ riders in Europe ran Hagons and were happy with the product. For me it was about the price. There is point where the law of diminished returns kicks for me and the thought of putting a shock priced well over $500 on an old bike was pointless. That is why the Hagon was an option. If you are interested contact with Dave Quinn Motorcycles at dqmcs@earthlink.net . They were very helpful when I made contact with them via email.

The OEM SHowa is not worth the time or money to upgrade. If your a tinker, you could play with the valve shim stack and oil some.. But, it's a black art. Unless you really know what your doing, chances are you'll make it worse, not better.

I did this.
Cost me something like $200.
Is it better than stock? for sure.
Is it $200 better? I don't think so.

I read an article in a UK magazine (BIKE?) on a whether the SH was a good used bike and the one they found had a Hagon shock - they said it's a decent upgrade but I got the impression it falls short of Penske or Ohlins. And the dollar is so weak against the British Pound now, I doubt the price is worth it. I'm still running stock too and can't find anything worth while - she's starting to feel like a 69 Cadillac on a country farm road....let me know if you find something cheap & cheerful.

my recommendation is to install yourself but get a professional to set it up. some do it for practically pennies since it doesn't take much time.
