RC51 Brake Rotors

I recently swapped out my CBR front end for an RC51 front and I am looking for a set of rotors. For the life of me I cannot find a decent listing for places to buy aftermarket rotors. I really do not care for wave rotors, and finding a set of "normal" looking rotors is driving me crazy. Does anyone here have aftermarket rotors on their RC51 conversion or does everyone run the stock rotors? If so, where did you get them?

Thanks.

EBC makes OEM replacement rotors that don't have the waves. The ones with the blue carriers look like shyte, and the gold ones are only so-so. You could always paint them black.

Think that I am going to go with rotors from BrakeTech. They have their new Axis / Cobra design which have a cool looking carrier. They are a semi "wave" design, but I think that I could live with it.

EBC has some newer rotors called Pro-Lite Contour rotors with a similar pattern. The carriers are more conventional looking, though.

I like the look of the aftermarket rotors on the Superhawk. They stop better too! I have a set of the Pro Lites and their performance is a better upgrade than their looks. How expensive are these BrakeTech rotors? I think they look better than the Pro Lites. Stopping for me was the most important and the waves were too expensive although I like them a lot.

They're not very exciting looking, but if they work well they're probably worth it. I have been looking at a pair of those for the 954 front end on my Hawk. At $155 apiece, they're a bargain. So you recommend the garden variety Pro-Lites?
The Brake Tech rotors are around $270 apiece, but I don't think they're available for the stock Super Hawk front end.

The ones I am looking at are the Ductile Iron rotors. They offer the best feel and great stopping power. They are pricey, and I continue to go back and forth on the merits of this type of rotor, but I think I will get them as I really only want to buy one set of rotors and be happy with them. The difference in cost is $25 a rotor so not that huge. It is more so the investment of $700 for rotors. The ones that are listed on KneeDraggers are discontinued, so you can't get them that cheap anymore. You need to go straight to BrakeTech to get them as I cant find any dealers that will order them.

Hey Lefin102.... how long have you had them? do you have any issues with rust on them? The Brake Tech website talks about that as being a "possible" issue if you ride in the rain or have high humidity.

Seaton001, They have been on the bike a year but low miles only a few hundred. I baby my bikes they are in a climate controled garage and I don't ride in the rain unless stuck in it. So I can't tell you about the rust issue but they are great for stopping. I also put the Ferodo XR sinter grip pads on with the RC51 master and calipers. Great set up! Good luck

Braketech Ductile Iron rotors

I bought an oversized (320mm) pair of Braketech "Superlite" Ductile Iron rotors soon after I got my 'hawk, about 2 yrs ago.

A nearly unbeleiveable difference in braking power & feel !

Sadly, they're now worn thin (I've put about 30k miles on them !)

and I'm even sadder to find out they're out of production :-(

Anyone have any idea how I can figure out what bikes may have the same offset and bolt pattern as the Superhawk ?

I know some of the VFR's do, as I sold my stock set to a friend with a VFR.

If I'm FORCED to go back to a stock diameter --- has anyone got any suggestions for more potent calipers ?

The stock 4 pot calipers look pretty wimpy against my buddies Suzuki TLR, with 6 pot.

I'm thinking if I lose the diameter and gain caliper force, maybe I'll come out about even ?

Hawkster,

Not according to Galfer or EBC. I just checked. They have different part numbers. The EBC catalog says the center hole size is different, but it also says for the F4 to "Check bolt PCD with 1003 LS/RS". 1003 is the VTR part number. Sooooo, it might work but center holes might not be the same.
