Question Brake Rotors

I'm getting major (as in scary) vibes when haulin' on the front brakes so suspect I have seriously warped rotors. Anyone have any experience with the wave rotors advertised on e-bay? Price is a fraction of new stock rotors - what gives?

I had the "real" ones made by Galfer and they worked well, though not significantly better than stock. It all depends on pads, really. Don't get the Galfer pads with the Galfer waves.

Now that I have the 1000RR brakes they just don't compare.

If you want the real deal send me a PM for a price on my used ones. They only have about 500 miles or so on them. They're like brand new.

Question

I bought a set, I'll let ya' know when I get them on with the braided lines as well. As a question for the forum members in the know: I also got EBC HH pads to use with them - are these the ones to use with the wave types?

EBC HH pad are damned good with stock Honda rotors. There are some rumors about them being to harsh on some rotors but never on OEM Honda. Give it a try. You'll like the initial bite. If you find they are harsh on the rotors get a different pad.

+1 on the EBC HH pads - major improvement over the stock pads.

I just put EBC Pro Lite Plus Contour rotors and EBC HH pads on. Its so much better than stock. No idea about the HH pads wearing on these rotors yet as they are just now bedding in.

I emailed a few past buyers from ebay on those rotors. all said they were happy with the purchase. I would love to hear from a shforum member how they liked the front rotors before I buy some. I am only worried since he said the rotors are stainless steel. Most rotors are made from iron. Iron is VERY abrasive and is ok with getting hot, cold, hot, cold, etc. SS tends to crack under those circumstances. However, I am speaking from my experience in the aerospace industry, not automotive. i deal with commercial and military landing gear, not motorcylce brakes.

some of the jets we build parts for use carbon fiber brakes.
steel won't cut it.
I was refering to automotive iron rotors.


with a little google help, I found that the galfers are made from high carbon 420 steel which is a stainless.

what are you talking about?

Most rotors are made from steel. Straight iron does not deal well with heat cycling and many types of stainless are great with it.

I'm running EBC prolite rotors with the parts unlimited pads(SBS) and russel lines. Only complamt I have is they seem to be either on or off, no real feel. Probably because of the braided lines or the mastercylinder needs a rebuild.

Since my poor boy racing days i have always used kevlar or ceramic type pads cause I couldn't afford rotors at the track. I always overbuilt the the brake system instead and used the easier compounds.
I ran a GS500 at the WERA GNF at Road Atlanta with HH and warped the heck out of the single front rotor, the track replacement was nearly $200.
For the next season, I modded the front end with a Bandit 400/ Katana 600 dual disk set of forks (from 38 to 41mm) and used Kevlar pads. It worked famously! that race bike is still ready to rock and has no warping after 3 more seasons.
My Hawk has 01 GSXR 6 pots, 954 master cylinder, braided lines, and ceramic nonmetal pads. It works well. You can one finger, but I like to use 2.
