mod update
mod update
I just picked up my bike from the dealer's after having had my valves adjusted. While it was in the shop, I got them to install my RC51 front brake master cylinder as well as the (quicker action) RC45 throttle tube. I only rode teh bike a short distance (@ 20 kms) but so far I am more than pleased with these two mods. The throttle does feel substantially quicker and the front brake has a nice action.
I beleive my two intake runners (thanks eBay) are now in so I will begin experimenting with those this evening.
cheers

Re: mod update
Just got back from a ride with the two long runners and will staying with that set-up (awesome low and mid-rpm power and response)
My mods for this year then:
RC 51 master cylinder
RC45 throttle tube
100/55 Xenon headlight
removal of driving light bulb, painted lens cover red
installation of lightened flywheel (thanks to Roger at Rev. Racing)
Flo-Commander
installation of long intake runner on front cylinder
changing gearing from 16/43 to 15/41
Mototeck undertail
LP tank bra
painted rad grills red
red stripping kit for wheels
steering damper
SRC fork brace
new low-friction C3 bearings and seals on both wheels
2 new OEM CCT's
carbon-fiber gas cap and triple clamp covers
high-mounting my Microns, adapting ZX9 rear passenger pegs to fit
heat wrapping exhaust
Previous mods:
higher windshield (clear, painted it black on the inside)
Sargent seat
Heli-bars
braided-steel front brake lines (Galfer?)
EBC HH pads all around
raised forks by 6mm
rear shock shim (4.8 mm)
Race-Tech modded rear shock
Race-Tech 0.80 kg front springs with modded (drilled) cartridge (thanks to Roger at Rev. Racing for exact specs)
Micron slip-ons
DJ kit (and dyno tuning, 105.5 hp and 68.8 ft-lbs)
VFR800 finned rectifier (and drilled the side panel for better cooling)
heavy bar ends with throttle lock
gel grips
painted the chin fairing black
The cost? Not sure (rather not think about it actually).
The result? Priceless
cheers

Re: mod update
Hi Shayne
You are correct in that I am very happy with my set-up. Of course, a set of Stage 1 Moriwaki cams, some hi-comp pistons and a full exhaust would be welcome (as would a RC51 front end) but my VTR runs quite well in its present state.
In tersm of my steering damper, I believe it is a Shindy but am not certain. It resembles this one quite a lot:

I purchased it from one of the members of this forum (forget wxactly who now however).
On another note, how is your project coming along?

Re: mod update
Thanks.
If you go down the compression and cams route you will find that shorter runners will work better than your long ones. That is accepted theory from Moriwaki.
My project has gathered momentum in the last 2 weeks. I waited 5 months for my pistons and rings from the USA, but now I have the engine partly assembled. Bottom end is together and the heads are on. We have a 4 day weekend this week for Easter, so the engine should be done and painted by the end of that. Then in a couple of weeks I have a weeks holiday to work on the bike as well, so after that I should have made a lot of progress hopefully. I still have some parts that need work rather than just bolt on, so there is a bit to go yet, and I will wait until I have it run in and have the tuning fully sorted before I paint the fairing.
So I reckon another couple of months before it is finished, but it is getting closer.

Hey Mikstr, were you ever in a position to measure the weight difference between the stock and modified flywheels? Did Revolution ever give you a spec sheet of any kind?
Pics???
I'm interested in finding out more. I wouldn't mind doing this myself.
Let me know. Thanks.

Hi Slim (a.k.a. fellow Canuck),
I never had the opportunity to check the difference in weight with the machined one. I do have the specs from Roger but I know he tends to be quite touchy on such matters (confidentiality reasons) but I think that if you write to him directly (tell him I sent you if you like) you will find him to be extremely helpful. He is a real gent.
To give a brief update on my continuing mod experiments, I am now running two short intake runners (although I have a 12mm home-mad extension on the rear cyl), as well as my modded snorkel. I have also drilled two 1" holes in the airbox cover (in the side, close to the front, as per a previous thread on this forum). The results seem excellent as the engine seems livelier (better breathing) although I haven't had it on the dyno since (soemthing I may do prior to mothballing it for the winter). I am extremely happy with teh way the bike is running: throttle response is spot-on and it pulls very well
cheers

Are you running 2 long or short velocity stacks? Did drilling the holes in the airbox really make a measurable difference and are you concerned about water getting in? What was your snorkel mod, I've heard it is not a good thing to do and what filter are you running?
You really need the RC calipers to get all the benefit from the MC. Once the calipers are on though...hang on!!!
I am currently running two short runners (due to internal air mods, rear one modded with a 12 mm extension) and the engine does seem to breath better (although I realise the seat of the pants is not the best tuning instrument at times). As well, I have two holes drilled but am not overly concerned about the rain as they are basically covered by the tank. While COULD potentially get in, I likely have better odds of getting struck by lightning.... In so far as the snorkel mod, I basically cut out the divider and dremeled the wall thickness as much as I could. I have read that doing this on a stock engine has little if any benefit but, again, it seems to allow the engine to breath better. As for air cleaner, I am running OEM piece.
