If you find that this didn't fix your problem long term, it's been discussed in another thread to up your idle speed 100-200 RPM. That's what worked for me. Been over 2 years and no problem since.

i had it set at 1200 and it would still happen ever once in a wile. nothing like taking a second to downshift and your motor dieing and no it didnt bump start. got a little squrely

I've heard from a Honda Mechanic...the suprhawk twin is such a powerful motor and as it's turning over and over on itself sometimes it's hard work for it to keep itself going and the large cyclinders and constant compression so it's almost as if the motor sort of blows itself out like a candle..
does that make any sense? sorry it's hard to explain it his words were much better...
needless to say we bumped up the idle...in the mornings on cold starts it cutts out a lot too...even with the choke fully pulled out...

A Honda tech from England who now works at a dealer in Irvine, CA and used to own a VTR told me shortly after I bought mine "its a big bore v-twin with 48mm carbs, its normal". My old BMW R100RS used to backfire through the carbs occasionally too.
