Cams?

I just acquired a set of stock cams and would like to have them hard welded and reground. (for performance) Anybody know who can do this?

BTW – in the past on project bikes I have installed H.C. pistons. Is this necessary or recommended on the hawk? I have read that the lower end can only handle so much and I certainly don’t care to build a time bomb. Also what type of HP # should I expect? Thanks

That's exactly why I haven't done cams, yet (I have JE pistons). I've heard/read the crank will only handle 130, but I'm not sure how accurate that is or remember where i heard it. I would think this would vary with how you're making the additional power and your tune.

From what I have read from experienced tuners, you shouldn't have any problems with Stage 1 cams and hc pistons (like J.E.). It's when you start to get into Stage 2 cams and the like that you may run into problems.

That sounds about right. I know a local tuner that used to build a superhawk racebike for a customer and said that it used to keep breaking cranks and was @130.
