Adjust Handlebar/Clipon/Fork Height

Hey Y'All, I inherited a 98 Superhawk from my late father-in-law and I've noticed while riding that my turn signal/headlight switch will hit the fairing and turn on my highbeams. Is there anyway I can adjust the handlebars/forks to avoid doing this?

Thanks!

He may have fitted with VFR clip-ons that sit higher than stock VTR clip-ons.

That may explain why stock SH's appear to have more space and considering he used to do a fair amount of traveling with this bike.

I'm not sure. Is there a way to tell? I have somewhat limited knowledge of modifications that were completed.

Searched my photos and don't have any of the stock bars. Found these in a thread. Maybe enough to make an ID.

And, since xeris is being so secretive, those look like VFR clip-ons.

You can try shimming the fairing off the mount using some washers to gain a bit of clearance. I've not done it, but it has been talked about on here lot.

Where do I play the washer? Under the mirror mount or else where?

You're right. Now that I look closer, the rise is more than stock SH bars.

Another method is to remove the faring and apply a very slight upward tweak to the arms on the cowl stay. Be very careful as this is a part that is no longer available new and quite rare used.

And even more rare used and straight.

I've wondered about making a calibrated tweak to the stay instead of shimming. I don't recall ever reading about anyone doing so.

And, looking again, I see you were trying to post images of the stock clip-ons. I thought you were just being cagey. My mistake.

When I purchased my bike in 2011 it had been dumped. During the assembly with the new parts I was having alignment issues with the faring and the cowl stay. Slipped a length of pipe (1 1/4"?) over the arm(s) of the stay and moved it back into proper position. So it can be done, carefully
