520/530 setup comparison
I don't know that the firing order has that effect, plus most high performance i4's are extremely weak at low rpm. There have been twins for decades and if this were a real problem engineers would have done something to address it (special cush drive, etc.). I think how hard the owner rides and the level of care they apply has a greater effect on wear life. I can't imagine a 520 chain would survive long enough that anyone would choose it if these engines were significantly tougher on them.
The v2 have also held an advantage in racing for their smoother drive off of corners as well as being less hard on the tire.

As for the manufacturers doing something about it they do. They use higher quality 530 chains that will hold up to it. The reason people use 520 is because they are lighter as stated already. If you don't care so much about the longevity but do about performance, such as a track bike, then it's a great option.
The reasons V twins pull better out of the corners is the torque they make. They have much broader power bands and don't have to be revved to the hilt to get the power out of them. Also I'm sure you'll also notice that generally a V twin will have more displacement in the same class as a comparable I4.
It occurs to me that the most common complaints about the VTR (besides the CCT) is the poor mileage, and how harsh the bike is on drive components. So I ordered a stock front sprocket and a 39 rear, hoping to extend the mileage just a bit.
We'll see how well it works out.

I guess you will get a tiny bit less acceleration rate, but higher top speed if you will
Keeping RPM a little lower will help the MPG if you do long distances.

I get 40-42 in normal, non sporting riding conditions with my SH, I don't know of any 1000cc (or even many modern 600's) bikes that do much better. The bigger issue is the relatively small tank.
