I got one of these to try when I do the 520 conversion
Alloy carrier, steel teeth ring, & titanium pins - about $85

Should give good sprocket wear but lighter than full steel
Heavier than aluminum tho but i prefer better wear

Can you simply replace the out ring when it wears out? Can you get in a couple different sizes for less than entire sprockets? I like the idea, thanks for bringing it up.

Hey internet tuff guys, new info comes up every time a topic is covered. The search function sucks. If searching was so easy, they wouldn't have created sticky's or white papers, so back off. Why waist your time posting a complaint, if you don't like the thread don't enter. New people join with new input. Ever try searching for the front end swap and find different information in every thread? People were posting in 2002, and had nowhere near the information we have in 2008. Get over it.

I don't think so.....just replace the sprocket.
Being steel teeth, when it's time to change the sprocket you would need a new chain & front sprocket anyway

What does this change provide? Faster acceleration or more top speed.

Better acceleration with no real penalty on top speed.

<1 hour if you're a decent wrench no sweat! Remember when you pull clutch cover to bleed clutch after it's reinstalled

You local Honda dealer should have what you need in stock for around $50 or so...a local CycleGear may be cheaper, but I like to support my local shop cuz I like the guys there even if I don't let them work on my bike!

I did the 15/43 set up a few weeks ago, lots of fun playing around. I just got back from the twisties with this set up, way to choppy, think I'm going back the stock front and +2 on the rear.

care to expand on "choppy" like you couldn't keep the front wheel on the ground?

Oh,so its been decided that WD40 is the best chain lubricant?

15/43 520 alum sprocket rear. great improvement in spinning weight reduction and acceleration. highly recommended to bring the hawk to life.

the advantage of 520 is lighter, but lighter is not just lighter as a lighter seat or tank, etc., when it involves spinning weight, and unspung weight. Chain/sprockets are incredibly more significant, as are lighter wheels, tires, rotors. Centrifical and Gyroscopic effects and principles apply. If you're not into performance, that is acceleration, deceleration, bending turns, etc., then use the OEM set up because heavier is stronger in the case of 520 vs 530, and you will probably achieve longer duration with less adjustments.

That's my 2 cents
old thread but what is this buzzy in 6th about. I have never figured out this noise I have in 6th and wondering if it's related.

installed 15F 42R this weekend and i must say this brought the bike to life. 5k rpm is about 75-78 mph now, not too buzzy to worry about for me
