Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting on here (obviously. Sorry.)
I've had my 98 Superhawk for a little over a year now, which I bought from a good friend and current member xDayan who just so happened to be my neighbor. He had done some modifications to it, such as flush mounted turn signals, fender eliminator kit, Corbin seat (very comfortable and much better than the stock seat), frame sliders, integrated tail light LED set, a set of Vance and Hines exhausts, and custom wired heated grip setup that he did ( a must in Alaska).
I love the way the bike runs, and I love that it's a head turner. Everybody up here just has an R6 or something of equal garbage value. Do you guys ever have that feeling where you like something but then 12039857120935871034968710295870129857012438570139 857013489 other people get it and think that they're better than everyone else? That's my feeling with those.
Anywho, that kind of turned into a rant. I'm sorry. Back to the point!
In the last two weeks, I've ordered numerous decals and other little parts for the bike here and there. So I figured, what a great way to have my first post on this site be a before and after of the bike that hopefully won't take more than two weeks! I ordered some reflective decals from Tapeworks, and I must say working with Rob there was a real charm. If anyone ever needs any graphics, I'm gonna have to say go with him first and foremost. I like my things looking crazy and a little off color, so I went with a hyper reflective blue wing set and rim stripes with reflective white number plates on the front and back, with the rear seat cover having the blue number plates (my superhawk is red). Hopefully they go on smoothly and add a freakish offsetting look to it. hahaha. On top of that, I've got numerous kanji decals that are starting to come in for it that should hopefully match the reflective white. I'm gonna take off the honda decal on the windsheild, and also the superhawk 996 decal on the fairings, but leave the clear coated decal on the gas tank. I just don't like the way the super hawk decal looks...it seems like it doesn't fit in place very well.
I also figured, while we're doing the graphics remodel, might as well invest in some other things too. I got a carb jetting kit, stages 1-3 and a new set of D&D satin black exhausts. If anyone has any opinions on these, or what I should do with the carbs, or how I should do them, please enlighten me. Any and all information helps me.
And on the cheap side of the additions, I bought a new clutch and brake lever set in a neon blue, and I'm also looking into maybe a blue underglow kit. Even though they're pretty cheesy, I must admit they look nice, and for the price you can't go wrong. My friend had a set of red LED's on his Blackbird, and a set of blue ones on his ZX-14.
So hopefully this rehaul will start this weekend! Any hints or tips on these things would be awesome (especially the carb jetting)!
And one last thing too, what would you guys recommend for the front light? I've talked to people that just outright despised the HID light kit on it, and others that have loved it. Before I go do any tinkering with it, I want to know what you guys would recommend or what you think about them.

So we started the rehaul on Friday, and it took way longer than we had anticipated. But doesn't it always? The more and more we dug into it, the more problems we came across.
1) Turns out that there was a short in the brake light, so the brake doesn't work but the turn signals will come on.
2) The air filter was hideous. I'm pretty sure I pulled out like 6 dragonflys. Ha.
3) Oil change is a MUST.
4) Needs a super cleanup on the interior. Dirt and grime everywhere.
But that's okay. More stuff to do. At least I won't get too bored. When we were trying to take out the carbs though, we hit a rough patch that cost us about two hours of time, sadly. As it turns out, the aftermarket steering dampener that was installed runs right across the special slot for loosening the clamps on the air intake. But, after enough fussing with it we were able to loosen them and take it off.
Now we got to the part where we knew nothing about. We swapped the main and pilot jets out, but were pretty reluctant to drill the extra hole in the slide. So after ample research on the forums, we decided against it, as many others have done the same. I figured that if I needed to tap it later I could, but it would be way more a pain in the *** to cover the hole later if I messed up. We did add spacers to the needle though, but didn't adjust the spring. Put it back together, but now I have a question.
I know we probably should adjust the fuel lever, but to what? Isn't OEM like 2 1/4 turns? What should we change it to?
I've got plenty of pictures that I'll post up here later when I've got my camera.

So I finally got my carbs reseated and fired the bike up for the first time in months, and she's running like a charm. Got the idle set back into place, and it seems like there's no lag in the throttle, but I still have a couple more things to test, including riding it.
Put my HID in yesterday too, what a difference. It's insane. However, my angel eye was cracked and I broke it when trying to seat it, sadly, but it's okay because I'm getting a new one! haha! If anyone gets a chance, Matt at The Retrofit Source is AMAZING to work with! If anyone needs an HID just talk to him and he'll hook you up! Super straight forward, even for someone who had no Idea what they were doing, LIKE ME!
And today I will be installing my D&D's, which should be beast.
Then I'll be able to piece her back together and hopefully have the decals slapped on her by the end of the weekend!

Yeah I'm stoked. My buddy had D&D's on his Blackbird XX, and when I would ride a couple hundred yards behind him I would only hear his pipes, not even my bike. Now at least people will be looking for me on the road, at least I hope so.
So I'm happy to say that Everything went smoothly! Just got her completely rebuilt and out for her first ride on saturday afternoon, and damn those jets made one hell of a difference.
We did run into some issues wiring the headlight in and trying to find a place to mount the morimoto bixenon computer. But after a while we figured it out and got it put together.
I was so anxious to get out and ride it that We decided to leave a couple things for a rainy day, which should be coming relatively soon. We're gonna mount the CCFL blue halo later, as well as doing the LED underglow and doing the graphics. We think we should be able to do it in one weekend.
All I have to say is.....Holy God. Those D&D's are loud. I set three car alarms off rolling through the wal-mart parking lot.
Totally worth it.

If you look at tweety's SH (barely even a SH anymore) I think he made a cover plate for it and mounted it next to his speedo. I chose to make a relay harness and have it seated safely under my seat, saves a lot of precious space behind that fairing.
Take pics of the CCFL when you're done, I've been contemplating throwing some on there because right now I have some red leds mounted to my shrouds. It attracts some attention when it's on at night. Looks like it's ready to eat babies or something.

Oh you'll see it. Believe me. But I'm keeping all of my pictures locked up until Next months VTRoTM. I wanna see those red LED's though. hahaha. They sound badass. I decided to go with the CCFL instead of dealing with the LED's. Wouldn't say it was easier, but I haven't dealt with the LED's.

I CAN'T HELP IT. I've spent almost $2,000 in the last month and a half just for stuff on my bike. And this weekend I'm moving to a 16/43 sprocket and chain. Found a deal on one of the other posts for a set from Driven. It's not the best, but it'll look nice and at least last me a while up here. Still can't decide whether or not I want a D.I.D. chain or EK chain yet. Whichever one I get though I'll make sure it's top of the line. And don't you guys dare turn this post into an argument of which is better/safer between the Rivet and master clip. Although it would be kind of funny.
There are a couple people lined up to slay next months VTRoTM, but I'll at least be throwing down a little competition. As for the pictures, I'm way the hell above and beyond. I'm just gonna dump them all down here at one time somtime in the next two weeks. I decided that I'd rather wait and throw it out at the last second. Unlike Mikstr and 7moore7 who showed everyone their super badass bikes BEFORE VTRoTM, I was almost positive that nobody else would enter that first months after Mikstr bike.
