SH 240/250mm Wide Tire Kits

Does anybody know of a company that makes a 240/250 tire conversion kit or someone who can modify my swing arm to accept that size tire? I already have a rim and tire that is on my South Florida Chopper. Any technical advice would be greatly appreciated. Thamks, Brad.

Not to sound off but other than looking really cool being that wide and already having the rim and tire why would you go that wide?

8541Hawk will become famous soon enough
As ghetto fabulous as that would be I do not believe it is possible on this bike....

To strive to be different just like everybody else. I seen a CBR600 that they did a 240mm conversion to without extending it like most of the Hayabusas do. I dont like the look of them with the extended swingarm. I had a 97' CBR900RR back in 2000 that the previous owner widened the rim to fit a 200mm tire and it looked bad ***. This was back before they had all the fat tires that you can get easily nowadays. A 200mm was the widest tire you could get in a 17" hi-performance and there was only 2 companies that made them (which I cant remember now). If I can do it I plan on installing a wider subframe and tail section. 8541Hawk- Why do you think its not possible?

If my concern was looking badass, I'd put a sidecar on my VTR. I'd mount a replica MG-34 on it. I'd get one of those Kaiser Wilhelm helmets with the spike on it. Ha!

With enough time, energy and money, I'm sure you could put a 240mm tire on the bike, but it will handle like a '59 Coupe De Ville with monster truck tires.

I second that ! Time & money, any thing is possible. Dont see any reason why it cant be done. Custom swingarm with twin chain set up.

This kit is made for vfr750,vfr800,cbr929,cbr954,cbr1000.
$4200.
If you can fit a vfr swing arm into a Firestorm, i dont see why you couldnt fit this into a firestorm.

Just a thought. Plus some extra pics for fun.

I think the largest obstacle will not be the swing arm but the chain offset from the motor. If you can find a competent welder fabricator in your area they could very easily modify your stock swing arm for the rim. I am not a fan of the look, but if all of us liked exactly the same things how boring would that be.

Considering the fact that nearly no parts in the swingarm assembly for the above bikes are interchangeable, I'd be very careful of spending any money on that kit... Basicly there is no part of the mounts on the CBR 929/954 that is in the same place as on the CBR 1000... And The VFR's have a 20 mm pivot axle while the CBR's all have 25 mm... I can go on for a while...

One of these companies will probably be able to make you a custom one though...

http://www.thompsonscustomcycles.com/

http://www.candscustom.com/

Not going to be cheap though... Will probably be as much as the bike is worth in the first place...

Tweety, i should have been clearer.
This is not one kit for all those bikes, they make a separate kit for the individual bikes, so one for cbr1000, one for cbr929 & so on.

I am not an engineer & have not put a vfr single sided swingarm into a Firestorm, but have seen the VFR SSS modification on many VTR's so i would have thought if a swingarm was designed to fit into a VFR, then i would think you could make it fit into a Firestorm.

They also do kits for single sided swingarms & say on there web site they make this kit for any model Honda. $5600 for 240 size tyre. See first photo.
Katryder1 the company is DSCBIKESHOP.COM

Also in reference to chain clearance you can do a twin chain set up as i said earlier. See last two photo's.

I am not an engineer & not saying to do or buy any of this stuff, i am just sharing some information.

That is clearer...

Yeah, a VFR swingarm can be made to fit (The CBR's doesn't fit unless you weld some, I tried... )

Probably easier to have them custom make one for the VTR though... Still not even close to cheap either way...

mate did you try the cr1000rr swingarm?
and if you did what problems did you find?

I'm curious as I have the swingarm already and I think it would look cool on a VTR. (just as long as it handled better too otherwise the conversion would be a waste of time).

The last post above yours was from 2010... Ie the thread is rather old...

But yeah, I tried the CBR 1000RR swingarm... It's not going to work unless you start cutting and welding on it...

The pivot axle is the wrong size... That could probably be solved with new bearings... However it's also in the wrong place, it needs to be moved sideways to even line up...

And the mount for the shock isn't even close, since the angle of the shock is radically different, and it's also in the wrong place sideways...

And when you get those small nearly inconsequential problems fixed, you still end up with a swingarm that's longer than stock, and sits at the wrong angle on the VTR... So if it will be an improvement is rather doubtful...

thanks tweety. good info and you've saved me the trouble of thinking any further about it. just for now I'll strick to the stock arm and work on my other mods.

and thanks captain chaos for showing your so smart... it must be great to be blessed with such intelligence. I knew it was an old thread, that didnt worry me as I was seeking info and found it. I thought you were going on about the swingarm being from a 2010 bike. hahahaha!

Actually it's wonderful to be so blessed Lighten up dude I was only kidding. Sorry it was 3am and I was going a week on no sleep after having surgery. Dum dum dum is like the sound effect in the movies...I wasn't calling you or your question dumb. And I wasn't even referring to your question, which didn't have much to do with the original post anyway. I was making a joke because first off I know Brad, and because for me the thought of putting a 250 tire on the back of a superhawk ranks right up there with chrome spinners and 10 foot long swingarms. To each their own, I was only having a laugh because a funny thread resurfaced and I remember it from the past. There now it's not fun anymore

sorry mate, I guess I too was a bit stressed (just bought a landrover discovery, a major headache-but real cheap). no sleep due to researching on it now too.

but youre right about fat tyres and bling. especially on a vtr. I liked the look of the swingarm on tweetys bike and just thought it may have been from the CBR1000. all good mate, sorry... ill get some sleep now!

This is to bad. It would have been interesting to see a VTR with an extended swingarm.

plenty of them out there with just an extended swing arm, a few on this forum even. (do a search, I am sure you can find them)

It is great if you are drag racing, but also very terrible if you want to go around a corner.

So did the OP end up going back to his Hardly a motorcycle? We may have V-Twins but that's where the similarities end and the styling does NOT cross over. LOL!
