RC51 Style Exhaust the easy (and cheap) way

So I had seen a post the other day about being able to angle the factory low-mount cans upward and re-hanging them, RC51-style, so I decided to give it a go. I had to delete the rear footpeg brackets and just ran a simple threaded block on either side with a pair of eyelet screws...the total cost was about $12 for the two blocks, and I used the two bolts that held the footpeg brackets to the tail. It took about 30 mins between hanging and orienting them, and theyre not perfect...they do leak just a little bit at the bottom, Just need to play with them a little bit, but I think it's worth the effort.

That looks pretty slick, but are you not worried about the turn signal lights warping or melting from the exhaust being so close?

Any close up pictures of where it appears to be leaking on the bottom?

As far as warping the signals, I really dont think they're going to get that hot but we'll see what happens. Gives me an excuse to get an integrator kit anyways

The leaks are just at the flanges, from the pipes being tweaked to get the angle...when I have more free-time I'm gonna take em off and put some silicon around the flanges and try to get them slipped back on tighter.

I can't tell if it's from a larger leak (that I can't seem to find?) or just the pipe angle being higher, letting me hear more of the exhaust, but the bike sounds absolutely freakin BADASS all of a sudden....it's got that nasty RC51 sound that it didn't have before. Works for me!

Thanks guys...I'll get more pics of the mounts that I used so you can see how stupid-easy it is to do yourself if you so desire

Looks great! And you're right, it's a simple mod that's really inexpensive.

I did the same thing to my '03 and I'm very happy with the results. It is a bit of a hassle getting rid of the air leaks, but it can be done. Don't worry about the blinkers getting overheated either. My pipes have been this way for 8,000 miles and there's no sign of melting or malfunction.

Have fun with the new set up.

It might've been you I got the idea from super...I know it was mentioned on this board somewhere else, so I gave it a shot

The air leaks were definitely the added bad-*** sound...it was leaking at just the right spot to make it just a tad louder, and sharper on a rev.... I almost hate to fix them! :/

Bump!

Hey Brooks, if you don't mind sharing - how the heck did you do this? I took a look on my bike and there's a mount at the rear of each foot peg, so I can just angle the tail of the exhaust. Do we have a difference in exhaust systems (maybe because mine is a Canadian bike?) or maybe i'm missing something.

Let me know please. Thanks.

i also fitted the RC51 pipes to my bike. i removed my 2 brothers cans and mounted them up using the 2 bro's hanger and mid-pipes. i think it looked great but.... the stock RC cans sounded like crap imo. i have now removed them & fitted the stock 'hawk hangers & cans.

I thought the idea at the beginning of the thread was to use stock exhaust pieces re-aligned in the same manner as an RC51. ?????
