Question POLISHED VTR WHEELS

SO, I WAS CURIOUS IF ANYONE HAS TRIED TO HAVE THEIR WHEELS POLISHED. I THINK I WOULD LIKE THAT LOOK.

Sorry, mine came that way from previous owner and I like them that way but would be interested to hear how it's done

There are a few write ups on how to do this. Just use the search.

There was a detailed thread on this just last week.

This is what I did to mine... (these are a RC front and CBR rear). I took the paint off the edges, lightly sanded to remove the tool marks from the factory, then polished/buffed the lips on my bench grinder... masked the polished area with tape and re-sprayed the rims a dark charcoal. I then chose to add a 3/16" red reflective rim tape to the outer edge.

I actually have another set of rims (VTR front and rear) done the same way that I used the same method but polished with a dremel tool... took quite a bit longer than the buffing wheel on the bench grinder but doable.

Keep 'em clean!!! Or you'll be polishing and replacing tape all the time. My next set of wheels are going to be polished lip like yours, powder-coat wet-black in the center, then clear powder coat over everything so I can use regular soap and water to keep them looking factory fresh for years. Polishing is great but takes a lot of maintenance. Love the look - no time for the labor.

I have had mine striped for years, it is no big deal to polish them 3 or 4 times a year to a mirror finish. All you need is about 20 minutes a wheel and some good Mothers aluminum polisha and a couple of soft clothes.

Mine get wet and nasty all the time. No more difficult than keeping a Chrome wheel looking sharp.

That would be my definition of high maintenance. I should note that I live near the coast and polished aluminum doesn't stay shiny very long here.

It's also easier to clean chain spooge off of chrome or good powder coated rims if that matters to you.

+1 on that look. I change my own tires but I'm never careful enough to avoid a scratch or two or three...... Instead of touch up paint, I may just do this to my RCBVFR while I save up to powdercoat them darkish gold.

CBR900RR rears (see my avatar) bolt right on (same cush drive, brake rotor, axle diameter) and are same 5.5 inch width. the multispoke cbr600's are narrower so beware.

Is the 900RR a 3 spoke rim?

Nope. That's the whole point of the mod: multi-spoke (6 to be exact). Just for looks. I've never liked the look of any 3 spoke design.

I've never been too fond of the 3 spoke either. I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for a 900RR rim now. Is there a 6 spoke bolt on for the front?

VFR's (94-present) and cbrf3. VTR rotors bolt on.

Yeah, the CBR 900 wheel direct bolt on, spacers and all. The front RC wheel you'll need the RC front-end to match!!! If you use the SP1 six spoke rim, it's a pretty much identical to the 6 spoke CBR rim looks wise. I got mine off EBAY... it was supposed to be from a '93.

On my other Hawk I'm in the process of modding, I'm using a SP2 RC front rim (5-spoke) to match the VFR rear 5 spoke rim that will be out back.... these almost match identically as well!! Both rims will get he same lip polish treatment... I kinda like the look and am getting pretty quick at doing the work, can do both rims in a day.

As for keeping them shiney... I've put a little wax on the rims every now and then, seems to keep them nice, and holds up to the water pretty well... I've also used "mothers", it works pretty well also.

Thanks for the info Doug. The 900RR rim looks very similar,do you know what the difference is? Do you know if there is a 6 spoke that will work with thr F4i front end?
