Painting tank

Is the graphic that is on the tank cleared over so it can't be removed? What about other graphics on the bike are they just laid on top and not cleared over?

Looking at maybe doing a plasti dip on it to change the color. Just wondering what show through.

Want to do flat black and then have these wings in gloss

All depends if the vinyl graphics have been lacquered over, as they are not standard can you tell if they are as glossy as the undecalled areas of the tank. Form the photo it does look as if the wings have been lacquered, along with the OEM decals.

If not , they should come of if you warm em first with a hairdrier, and then carefully pry em off with a wooden lolly stick/placcy spatula, while still applying warm air they'll generally peel off in one. Gets easier with practice.

You only other option is rolling up your sleeves with warm soapy water and wet&dry

Simply- Attempt to use heat(hair dryer, Heatgun) And if the fairing is lacquered over the decals.. Heat will cause the lacquer to brown.
Then either way- you will be Wet sanding with 320grit

Yet, your photos of the fairings, look lacquered...

When I re-did my hawk, the decals were cleared over.

Plasti-dip has a bit of a texture to it anyways, I'd just go over it.

At least you can go back to the stock colours later if you want.

Hey that's my bike and my stripes! Damn it looks good :-)

Okay the "Firestorm" on top half of the tank is factory, and yes it's cleared over as are the other small factory graphics (V2 on tail etc.). The big shaded wings were done by me, and no they are not cleared, they are just vinyl stickers I designed and had printed up.

My buddy who helped me do it does full wraps all the time to cover damage and/or change colors. It's not cheap but costs less than a decent paint job usually.
