I put a window on my engine.

I laughed at this every time I read through this thread. Just to update this if anyone is going through it. I talked to mav and he ran his bike for a couple of years with no issues (doesn't own it anymore though). If you use low profile bolts and silicone sealer, it works very well. Watching it spin is a trip in itself. You can see it very clearly as the oil is only in the bottom of the pan... it's not submerged or anything.
When it's running, oil drips down the window, but this also has a cleaning effect and it's very clear after it sits for a bit. Which makes sense if you think about how clean your engine covers usually look when you take them off (or at least how they should look)

Talking about that, you can also make it sound like a Ducati:

I'm thinking of having a go at this. I was wondering how well the Lexan held up to prolonged hot temperatures. I'm guessing the thicker the Lexan the better. I wont be cutting my casing and will leave the crossed centre piece in place and just remove the plate behind and attach the Lexan.

I don't remember the thickness I used, I can look it up, but thicker is NOT better. You don't have much room between the case and the plates. I had to grab some low profile nuts and grind the bolts down so that it would not interfere with the outer clutch plate. When you assemble, check interference with the clutch pulled in and not just as it sits (ask me how I know )
Another thing to note is not to screw the lexan down too hard or it will warp. Use blue loc tite and it'll hold. It's not a load bearing piece so you don't have to tighten it too much.
I've gone a year with mine on, not a single drip and it has zero signs of discoloration or temperature damage. It's still very clear and people often have to touch it to see that it's there.
