Header wrap & carbon cans
I've got a used set of Leo Vince carbon high mounts that I'm looking to install. The cans themselves will clean up pretty well but one of the mids has some ugly rash. I thought I'd just header wrap them all the way back and call it good until I can afford something new but a couple of the posts indicate that it'll cook the carbon. I'd hate to ruin the pipes. I guess my question is will it really ruin the pipes? I've seen a ton of them wrapped up to but not including the mids and they seem to be OK. Is wrapping the mid really a bad idea?

Wrapping keeps the heat in, not allowing the exhaust gasses to cool along the way... The positive is high flow, the downside is that a carbon pipe that dislikes to much heat might not last very long...
On another note, a VTR can kill a carbon exhaust pretty quick even without, the pulses from a big twin can more or less pound the carbon until it's soft and cracking...
I'd say try it... Worst case you need to re-skin the pipes after a while...

Thanks Tweety. Thats kind of what I was thinking. I dont have much in the pipes now so its not the end of the world if I have to do something with them later. They'll look pretty good if I can get them cleaned up a little. And look good enough for long enough to get me to what I really want.
