Getting to know the 'Hawk/Wheel Question

Greetings from the West Coast of Canada!

I have owned many bikes (CBR954RR, RC51 and CBR600RR are my last 3 in that order lol) and this is my first Hawk. Loved them all but wish I had started with the Hawk. Soooo much fun for the money!

Just getting aquainted with my 2003 I imported a few weeks ago. I am just doing a couple of cosmetic things to get started until I get some time on the bike and decide where to spend the money. The bike is a bone stock blue 2003 with 4000 miles. I have a set of new Yosh (inserts will be pulled immediately!) Titanium low mounts coming and was thinking of painting or powder coating the wheels gloss black a mile deep or gold. Anyone have any pics of such a bike with the gold rims. I saw a red one that someone that posted with the 900RR Rear and F2 front. Any pics of a stock set of wheels like that?

Also wondered if you order (900RR/F2) wheels on line do you need different discs/brakes etc. Order new bearings etc?

The front wheel you need is a CBR600F3. Both it and the CBR900RR rear wheel use the same patterns for rotors as the VTR. They will fit straight on.

Thanks for the correction on the F3 wheel. I can find a bunch of 900RR rears but no F3's up here in Canada. The guy I spoke with said they are really rare. Might just get the stockers painted.

I bought a 900RR rear on ebay for $120 delivered. For the front, I bought a brand new Delkevic wheel on ebay for $147 delivered. I really like the look of the 6-spoke rims. At $120, the rear is a little beat-up, but for the $27 more for the front is spotless. There are at least 8 on ebay right now.

Just wonder if you have any pics on that sweet Tahitian Candy Blue Hawk.

How do you like the Delkevic? What is the weight compared to stock?

Delkevic Wheel

To be honest, I have no idea about the weight difference. My bike is a commuter, so an extra few ounces or even pounds here and there aren't a major concern to me. Once I convert it to a trackbike, that's a whole different story. The rim is well built though. I installed new bearings and seals in it (since it comes with none) and it comes with no spacer between the bearings or mounting spacers either. But the middle spacer was only a few bucks on BikeBandit.com. I kept the original wheels for trackdays so I only have to switch them out and use the original spacers. Anyway, it balances perfectly with my Bridgestone BT-016 tire and minimal weights added. I have no problem letting go of the bars at 100MPH. Here are some pics. Sorry it's so dirty, like I said, it's a commuter. I also thought I'd show off my dashboard. It's a KOSO RX-2 gauge mounted on an aluminum plate that I cut to fit. The blue switch is for the powerlet plug so I can leave a cord plugged in without it being hot.

Which model years of the 900 rear are compatible? I would guess the '98 since that's when the hawk came out but if other years would fit that would be good to know. There is a front rear set of 93-94 cbr 900 wheels on ebay now....
