gear indicator
gear indicator
im doign some searching on here, toying with the idea of adding a gear indicator to the bike for ***** and giggles. and cause ive found first by mistake a few times, lol. reading on here and from the sounds of it people are talking about the acumen unit but what about the one from the same company that makes the speedo healer? seems like it hasnt been debated on here. price is about the same for both if ive read right.
if you click here

and click on the gi pro ds series its the one im talking about. from the sounds of it on bikes with a computer it plugs into the diagnostic port but im assuming it works the same as the acumen unit for bikes that dont, still cant confirm this as i havent read that far into it. but from the looks of it no one on here has the gi pro. or atleast not from the searching ive done so far. so to beat an old subject what one do you guys prefer? id like the more accurate of the 2 for obvious reasons but if its one of those things where its sometimes right and sometimes lost or gets confused with neutral or something then ill just skip it.

At the time I got my speedohealer it wasn't an option. I still thought it wasn't an easy plug and play for the SH lke the accumen is. I am a fan of theese. I have a gear indicator on another sports bike and its nice for track and street sport riding. Some will tell you just count - pay attention - don't be an idiot etc etc. But they are wrong! Once you've ridden fast with one its a definite plus. I have better things to do than count downshift some days. Lol

i agree. ive lost track of the gear a bunch of times. last thing i wanna do is try to remember what gear im in. especially at slower speeds. couple times ive click first thinking i was taking second, gosed it and ended up with a surprise wheelie. rode my buddys triumph daytona, it has a built in one, love it. think its pretty damn cool.
did some more digging around, looks like its like the acumen unit where you tie it into the speedo and tach signal wires and it learns

The Ds series is NOT going to fit... It's for bikes that are a lot more computerised than our old bikes...
From the information the x-series should fit... But apparently that's so new that there isn't much information about it yet...

my mistake your correct, i selected ds series initially and didnt realize in the drop down menu it shows the x series as being the only other option
Koso gear indicator
I was researching Koso GP style speedometers and ran across their gear indicator to be released in December 2009. I wish I could attach a picture, but the picture is too big. It's a really nice indicator and displays neutral. Something I didn't see on the Acumen or HealTech.

Check what i came across a few days ago...

its an entire dash and uses acceleromaters and wheel sensors to monitor your speed, linked with RPM to "learn" which gear you're in. plus hundreds of other really cool features...best part? it costs $149 for the basic version
i'm sooo getting one for my bike.

^^ actually it does...it computes how fast you're going, RPM and after a few gas tanks it can compute approximate gas mileage and with that it can determine fuel quantity....
its a pretty sick little gizmo.

I was thinking a simple light to let me know when I am in top gear would be nice. I have still not gotten used to the high rpms/sound/vibration you get with a VTR above 100mph compared to other bikes I have owned. I continously find myslelf looking for that 7th ghost gear.
I have a gi pro indicator from my gsxr i will be trying to get to work, it has two functions and can learn gears in a programing mode. I love gear indicators. Let me refrase that. Clutching up a wheelie in second gear when u think your in third sucks and counting through gears while a hottie is waiting for a show ain't that sweet either
I've got one of these built for my bike, but I've yet to have time to get it installed. I'm doing it a little different though - I'm mounting the display inside the face of the speedometer. The trick is going to be cutting the hole and making it look good. I don't like the idea of some 'box' hanging off the side. I've already got that with my A/F gauge and I don't really care for it like that.
