CNI Dawg,

Sold! I'll buy em. They do give excellent rear view and no elbow
right? And do they sit pretty at speed also? They're just gonna
bolt right on to my 03?
My emails terryb357@att.net, just let me know how you you want
payment & where to, bud.

Thanks,
Terr

I have had the R6 mirrors on for about 3 days now. I am very happy with them. Serious improvement over my previous mirrors. I can see pretty much what i need to see. If i want to see directly behind me i just need to pull in my elbow and i can see. They arent perfect, but they are definately better then the stock ones. Thanks for the info.

I've been talking to Superhawk22 via emails
Since he asked 1st I'm committed to that deal 1st.
If he doesn't want them you can have them.
I'll post up when I know for sure.
Mine have a few nicks & scratches
(that's why they're only $20)

And yes they give you a great rear view w/o any elbow in the way of the mirror's rear view.
Because they are pinned at the pivot they do not move at high speeds.
I tried them w/o pins 1st & they would fold back to the detent over about 30mph with no rear view in that stock FZ1 detent position.

Here are some like mine on ebay.

CNI,
I'd sure like a visual on how you modded the
emgo's to work before you get rid of them, if possible, please. I've read this article and think I understand, but sure would appreciate a pic of how you made 'em work; since I've got a set sittin' on my dinner table.
Thanks Bill,
Terr

Re: Finally-A mirror solution!

Sorry I just mailed them to Superhawk22 this morning before I went in to work the afternoon shift.

Did you pull the rubber boot back (very carefully) to expose the pivot mechanism?

When you do you will notice the stem to the mirror part overlaps the stem to the base part at the pivot point.
Work it to see how the detent works.
You will see the pivot rivet.
You can drill a small hole thru the upper and well into the lower overlapping parts.
Don't drill all the way thru the bottom part (bottom as it's mounted on the bike... so your pin or screw doesn't go all the way thru)
Be careful to leave enough metal around your drill hole to hold the "set screw" you will install. (think small)
Use a drill bit sized for the screw you will use as the "set screw".
I used a small sheetmetal type screw with a small head.
A drop of locktite will help hold the "set screw" in place.
I had to guess at the position to "set the mirror....but after sitting on the bike holding the mirror & adjusting the stem it was very close to perfect.
If you miss redrill 180deg or so from the 1st hole. There's enough metal to do that.
You could use a "pin" instead of a "set screw" but will have to figure a way to keep it in place (tape? locktite? superglue?) That's why I used a screw instead.

I'm sure when you look at how it works you will see what I'm talking about.
Superhawk22 may be able to post pics after he gets them later this week.

Just be careful moving the rubber boots around.
It will tear easier than you think. Be gentle & go slow
Mine had a small tear on one but it was covered when mounting....that's how I found out..the hard way :-(

No they will NOT move if they are pinned.
You'll probably break them along with your plastics, engine cases, bars, levers, etc if you crash.

FYI - My stock mirrors were bolted so tight they don't move either.
but they only would pivot back NOT UP where they would need to go in a low side.

Going out of town in the morning so can't get you pics til later in the week (still at work now)
Mine is mounted on Vortex clip-ons
Here's the mirror. I just have one on the left side.
I turn in the saddle to get a good look behind now.
These are only good for a general idea of what is behind you.
The FZ1 setup gives an excellent panoramic rear view - no comparison to the bar end

Yeah they're not bad at all they're just reeeaaally long, I had mini LP signal mirrors so I have to get used to them sticking out sooo far. I'm about to take them out for a test ride so we'll see, like I said I think I just need to get used to having a mirror way out there again. I'll email you later.

Sorry Dawg, went to Disney for the boy's B-day. Love the view but seriously have issues with the length. I'm a bit of a minimalist when it comes to bikes and have everything tight to the bike and now I've got these super antenna sticking out. I'm really struggling with the form over function problem in my head but really like being able to see everything. I'll send you a check either today or tomorrow and if I can't get over the look I'll try to sell them for what I paid. One question though when you let them go to the natural position, (without the screw) are they usable or do they not work at all like that? I thought it might keep them closer to the bike that way but didn't know if they would work at all that way.

BTW I like your new avatar...you're getting there.

Yes I'm slowly making progress. Need another 10 track days to get better. The 1st track day pics were pretty bad :-)

Mirrors:
In the natural position the mirror pods don't have enough adjustment to see behind you.
You could try a different position but 1st check if the pods will adjust (they're pretty close now & may not move much more)
It would require drilling a different "set screw" hole.
Even tho they do stick out a lot they DO give you a Panoramic rear view with out any obstructions. You can really see what's going on behind you!

Heck if you just can't stand them just send them back to me.
I'll post them for sale. It's only $20...I'm not worried or anything.
Heck the stupid shipping was almost 1/2 the price of the mirrors!
Dang shipping has gone up like gas prices!

That's alright, I do like being able to see so well so I'm going to try and get used to them. If I just can't do it I'll deal with it, no problems.

If you are in the market for something a little smaller, I have a 20"x36" bathroom mirror that could be mounted to the front end for a great panoramic view.

The Genmars? Yeah, I tried 'em but wasn't happy with them. I currently have the Don Herve limited production extenders. They're like an extra link in the arm. Really nice. I can provide pics if you'd like. Hell, somebody should make another run of these. Like the guy working the rearsets project, maybe?

I did the FZ1 mirrors mod and I am pleased with the results. They are long...but I like to be able to see behind me too! Didn't take to long to get use to the long bug eyes. I did some trimming on the yamaha boots to make it look factory and they came out ok. Most folks don't even know that they are not stock.
