Dutch streetfighter build

Hi guys,
After riding around on my black VTR for a few years now,
I have started to work on my vtr streetfighter past summer.
This is my normal streetbike;

See here more images
VTR Of The Month - August 2010 - WINNER: Revelation! - SuperHawk Forum

It has been a long cherised wish; to build my own streetfighter.
Anyway I came across a special VTR, an ex race bike with some nice extra's.
It used to compete in "battle of the twins".
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-WXUDO7D8.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-PRNSZJRD.jpg
Extra's oa;
- Magnesium wheels
- WP front front forks
- WP rear shock
- Brembo brakes + discs
- Highmount exhausts
- Steering damper
- Weight reductions
- and more...

This is the way I bought it;
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-FM4QGY8G.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-6UEOFO67-1.jpg

It was running poorly at that time, but I was going to take it apart anyway.
The engine was said to have 130 hp; cams, ported etc. So the engine I have sent to Roger for an overhaul, but it wasnt as tuned up as the seller made me believe.. and the gearbox was completely fucked. So bitterly dissappointed I got yet another (stock) engine. That was the cheaper solution.
A real pitty never the less.

Now the main ingredients for the build:
- Aprilia Tuono 2007 rear
- 19L tank (customized)
- Triumph speedtriple headlights
- Rear radiator mod
- Yoshimura tri oval exhausts
- CBR rear brace mod
- SP1 dash
- Lightened flywheel
- Carb kit, stacks
- Carbon clutch plates
- Manual CCTs

There's loads an loads more mods of course...

I will continue in next post... dont want to risk to make mistake and lose this bit!

Revelation 12-25-2011 04:26 PM

Since pictures say more than thousand words, I'll just keep posting pics.
This is somewhat chronological order
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-YWGSE87Y.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-ZI8OVBNP.jpg

Tried the exhausts on the bike.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-ZXTX4VSJ.jpg
Have put them away for now, to keep them in this mint condition.
Link pipe will have to be made custom, going for this look
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-IRKFUAPF.jpg

Firstly I was leaning twrds a single sided swingarm,
but then I would have to swap back to a stock rearwheel.
I decided to keep the magnesium wheels as a set.

So I had to do something with the original swingarm...
Bought a 900rr swing (cheap of fleebay), cut off the brace and had it welded onto mine.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-UYXRUW3M.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-W6M8I4GY.jpg
Will be fitted with real carbon hugger
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-KIZEDZBL.jpg

Subframe welded
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-GJCXIXXR.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-TEDAQWTA.jpg

Have bought a radiator from crashrat and it seems to fit.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-PYS4MWMT.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-KX3LFE7G.jpg

Even more stuff has to go under the seatcover... tight!
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-YX8ECKAT.jpg
But it all fits under the cover

Wiring, relocation and re wiring

Progress
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-JE68XNJV.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-LEGU6H7D.jpg

Bought a SP1 dash

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-BKTHM8MM.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-DQIXM8P3.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-F3ZUM74O.jpg

Still havent gotten it to work completely.
Does anyone have a 100% working one on his bike and is willing to share the right combo's?
Seen a topic about it, but it doesnt clarify everything.... help please?

Tank is modified a bit now; had those gaps filled and dent repaired.
These 19L are getting hard to find in good condition...
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-GZ7FITHM.jpg

And this is where I am now.
Got my pyramid belly pan in this week.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-CICKXBON.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-WYTEVGJR.jpg

Will have to finish building it now first, my "short" list:
- Complete the wiring,
- Relocate ignition key
- make coolant pipes from right front to left rear.
- Fix the dashboard
- Fit headlights
- Build up engine with the mods,
- Fix the carbs etc etc.
- Dyno dyno dyno

When I have it running properly,
will take it apart again for painting/coating.

That is all for now, if you have any thoughts... let me know!

Jep I am trying to keep track of it all, but will be hard to make a FULL list.
The other one also has more mods than I can remember.

Where abouts in the Netherlands are you moving to?
Is your bike coming along?
Getting a Dutch plate shouldn't be a problem... can help you with that if needed.

Yes +1
I absolutely love the look of this one, with the slim cans:
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-YPVP3MUI.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-CG3NGQLZ.jpg

But I bought these yoshimura cans, so is going to be a bit different
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-DN7J36FI.jpg

So far everything just seems to fall into place

For example the subframe; the 2 lower legs fit "as is".
Had to cut back the top 2, no problem there.
Lined them up, up to the angle that the saddle touched the tank.
Whataya know... it is lining up perfectly:

Unfortunately not moving to the Netherlands, just complimenting your amazing creation. If I could, I would move there in a heartbeat because I'm sick of what the USA has turned into during my lifetime/

thanks for the kind offers and we will be watching your masterpiece evolving.

"All the way" in southwest... place called Vlissingen!

Actually did a tour with the other bike yesterday. Nice! :D
It was abt 10 degrees, in december!

NHSH 12-27-2011 09:23 AM

My Mom lives on the other end, Groningen ;)

NHSH 12-27-2011 09:25 AM

10C wow, that is warm for end of december

mertechperformance 12-27-2011 01:30 PM

On ebay they do not show up very often,
I consider myself lucky getting one for the price I paid.

They can still be ordered NEW from Pyramid plastics... see here..
But they dont come cheap!

Revelation 12-30-2011 03:45 PM

This evening made the coolant lines..
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-NWS4FO4Z.jpg

My parents neighbour helped me out with it.
He is a professional and makes it look so easy.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-QJNVYEWB.jpg

Tubes are squeezed in just right and line up perfectly!
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-LFQMNSVF.jpg

http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-43IFEBGZ.jpg

Parrallel under subframe to connect to the rad
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-TF4TYNAA.jpg

Return tube will be a inside the subframe
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-OTAQBYCL.jpg

This steel version is the mockup, he will make them again in copper.
Will have the final version powdercoated black, same as subframe.
Trust it will be hardly noticeable when finished.

Yes! Didn't spend as much time on the bike as I would have liked.
Busy with work, going out too much and other stuff...
Maybe I will get some stuff done on saturday again.

I have been struggling to get past the wiring. Its just no fun!
Aspecially the additional wiring for the fans was an obstacle.
Need to wire 3 relais to switch on/off and from serial to parallel....
Sent it to someone who will fix it for me now.

Progress:
Radiator has been modified, so that that tip that points down is now lining up with the tube.

I did buy some new sparkplugs, filter and oil last week.
So slowly I am getting to putting her back together again.
Hopefully will do testrun end of this month...

Dash still not fully functional... cant get this damned tacho to work!

Need to get my link pipe sorted also, my welder is always too busy.

mikstr 02-01-2012 05:33 AM

I am running an RC51 cluster also and my tach doesn`t work either. I am hoping that switching teh R/R to a MOSFET unit will cure that. We`ll see....

Ooowww finally a companion in my suffering!

I am about to go to a guy with my dashboard to hook it up to a runnin' SP1.
Just to check whether the damned thing isnt faulty!

I think Tweety had his working, but it was from a cbr1000rr I believe. Maybe something to look into...

Jep allready sent some emails to Tweety abt it
Cant seem to figure out why everything works, besides the tacho.

Think 7moore7 has an earlier CBR(600) dash fully functional?

Revelation 02-15-2012 01:41 PM

Just ordered a box full of radiator hoses of fleebay..
Need some sharp bends of 25mm to make that turn from the waterpump.

Revelation 02-29-2012 01:16 PM

Received a box full of radiator hoses...
Whatayaknow, this is going to work out!

Was looking everywhere for 25mm pipe to link the bits.
Copper is 22 or 28 outside diam.

Whatayaknow found a piece of a table-leg, stainless steel 25mm.
Hooray! :)

Revelation 03-09-2012 01:53 PM

Finally have a complete cooling system, hope it is fully closed.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-YRZCEYPP.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-OQXHUJNL.jpg

And someone from the dutch message board has made the electra for the fans.
With 3 relais it swiches from serial (50%) to parallel (100%) when hot.
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-OKCZLOKV.jpg
http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-QNGNHZDW.jpg
Even fits behind the saddle!

Not to worry mate, have my eye out for a mosfet one... R1 or such?
Any other types I should be looking for?

Tweety 03-10-2012 05:52 AM

There is a whole list of compatible donors in the thread Mosfet Regulators, the how and the why...
