This is fun. I don't mind losing to VTRUMBLE. That's a sweet bike.

I don't know why Bill's bike isn't in the running. It's everything that mine was and still ticking.

Bob Hayashida built the best one in the USA. Far and away.

Hawxter- finish it up and you'll have something. Sorry but the has-been gets more votes than the wanna be. Your on a great mission. Git 'er done.

When I was bulding mine, I didn't have any money. Got parts shipped to work. Worked for a couple hours here and there, every bit I could squeeze in. The wife was extremely displeased. It was an obsession. Nothing could have stopped me.

for whatever reason i always enjoyed the bikes from the guys that scrapes and claws to get a good build rather than the rich kid who just drops a wad of cash for someone else to build.

then you oughta just love mine!
supporting two families takes some effort.
little to none for projects like this.
will take time but will get finished.....eventually.

RCVTR 01-11-2009 06:31 PM

No offense intended, Hawxter.

I'm looking forward to the finished product. It's great so far!

Actually I was hoping to light a fire about 3 ft high behind you. I can understand and relate to the difficulties and compromise.

if it goes as it is,i want to change my vote to the moriwaki race bike.

not sour grapes, just give the guys who are up and running a chance.

The rules are a little loose for a reason... there's nothing at stake here guys, it's all in good fun. If RCVTR had never said anything about his bike being totaled back in the day... would anybody on the board have known? No. It was a very well built bike that deserves recognition just like the rest of ours... even if it is a bit late. I'll bet 75% of anybodys chance of winning lies in good photography anyways.

This is as close as I can get. Ozzie the AZZKIKER bought my heads, cams and flywheel and bolted them on to a stock bottom end with stock ignition. I believe he had a slip-on exhaust:

I forgot a couple things. Added above.

Okay, that's good enough for me...you gots my vote:)

Hi Greg, bit of an offshoot here, is your literbikes site still up and running?
Cheers, Chris.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

It was a fun, rewarding project. And I rode the piss out of it.

My next one is about to kick off. I have little boxes of parts everywhere.

Can't wait to see pics of the new project! Also, how do you get those engine parts so clean?
RC

RCVTR 01-13-2009 06:43 AM

Here's how I do it:
-clean with solvent
-wipe out the bores with a try towel ( I like the blue paper shop towels)
-wipe the bores down with WD40
-wash every thing with soap and water
-immediately wipe out the bores with a dry paper towel
-rewipe them with WD40 - NOT OIL - oil traps water, WD40 displaces it.
-blow everything dry with compressed air.

Then you have all the oil off so no dust sticks to it.

I don't wash the cams or crank in water - it's too difficult to clean the oil passages. Spray them down with contact cleaner and let it evaporate - do it outside!
For final assembly, I spray everything with contact cleaner. NO DIRT!
I use clean solvent to wipe out the bores. Then use engine oil on a clean towel to wipe them down. I repeat until there is no sign of dirt on the towel after wiping. Then wipe the bores with a dry towel, leaving only a very thin film just before installing the pistons. Put some oil on the piston skirts.

I also check ring gaps with very clean bores.

Sorry 'bout the thread jack!

And a dead bike is winning. It was a nice bike and all, and I would have voted for it if it still existed, but I just can't vote for a bike that is no more.
I voted for FLO2SupaHawk996 also.

Tweety 01-15-2009 05:08 PM

The way I figure it it's OK to start with a bike that once was... You know, christmas past, present and future... Besides it was a damned pretty bike, with a lot of goodies on it...

And if hawxter get's his ass in gear and get that bike rolling he has a good chance at the "christmas future" part later in the year...

trinc... well I guess you are the "plain jane" of the bunch or something... Not spectacular enough graphics, or outrageous enough rebuild of the frame/engine/suspension... I'd say that's OK though... that baby is built for speed not show... Like nuhawk said about his bike, his might look like an old tourer, but it can show the tail pipes to most newer bikes...

New rule: The winner of every VTROTM get's pics uploaded to SuperHawk996.net!

inderocker 01-15-2009 06:35 PM

I have no problems tweaking the rules a bit to please the majority. This time around I had no idea who would enter or how many... so we took everything that came across.

Ummmm, well I don't honestly remember. But really it's probably closer to "Grand Poobah" then "king".

From Wikipedia:

"Grand Poobah - The name has come to be used as a mocking title for someone self-important or high-ranking and who either exhibits an inflated self-regard, who acts in several capacities at once, or who has limited authority while taking impressive titles."

RCVTR 01-16-2009 10:10 AM

Perfect!

Grand Poobah it is, then.
