Haven't posted here in a while and Hawkrider has been blowing me crap... Here's some pics from when I raced the SH at Cycle Jam w/ WERA at VIR in Aug '09. Enjoy!

What sort of rear tyre pressure were you running? Looks half flat!

Good on ya, was it fun?

I ran Heavyweight Superstock and HW SBK. I didn't do too well, but I was racing my SV650 that day, too. Funny thing is I can go faster on the SV. It is my race bike, though. That was probably the last time I'll race the SH. I do want to get it out for a track day again soon.

what kind of power is the 650 putting out? I've not been to VIR yet, but I guess I should assume that it's not so long and the turns favor light weight over power?

I ran the VIR north course for a track school, and it's a really fun and beautiful track. I wish I lived closer to it.

It has a good combination of tight turns, decreasing radius, some fast sweepers, a banked turn, elevation changes, and a "long enough" dog-legged front stretch with a 180+ degree double-apex right-hander at the end of it. It's a very safe track, too. I don't think there is a place on the track where a crash will throw you into something hard.

Yep, Tommy Hayden ran off the track into the grass at probably 180+ mph last weekend (while charging to the finish line to pass Ben Bostrom and win by 0.005 seconds) and still had room to get it slowed down & keep it vertical.

(Nice lookin' track bike Waterboy.)

It really doesn't have a lot to do with power. I've been racing the SV for 5 years and can carry some really good cornerspeed on it. When I raced the SH last year, It was the first time I had it on track in a year. Still, the SH is fun on the track. A little heavy compared to the SV, but fun none the less. Oh, here's what the SV and SH look like when they're both at the track for fun and games!

I used to have a Kawi 650R prior to the SH, and I know guys are doing lots of mods with the SVs to get more out of the motors. That plus the light weight would make for a pretty fun track ride. I was just curious what you've managed to squeeze out of the motor.

According to the guy that did the Superstock build on the motor, 75hp w/ race gas. According to him, that is the most he'd seen out of a 1st gen sv without starting to go Superbike on the motor... It'll be interesting to see what I get out of the 2nd gen SV superstock build
