Project streethawk

This is my placeholder thread for the progress pictures of my Streetfigthered VTR. Unlike all the other projects, I am not starting with a complete bike and tearing bits off it. Instead, I'm going the hard way and building it entirely from parts. The rough composition of the bike will be:

VTR: Frame, subframe, engine, rear shock
CBR929: Forks, clipons, front brakes
CBR900: Front wheel
VFR800: swingarm, rear wheel and brake
GSXR1000: Oil cooler

Custom made: Tank, exhaust (TBD, will be left side exit, single can), swingarm/shock mounts, rear cowling, wiring harness.

Right now all I have is a large collection of parts. Next step is locating and fitting all the bearings I need (axle, head stem etc) and a few missing bolts, like the frame/engine mount bolts. Most of the custom parts I'm fabricating myself. I'm undecided as to whether that will include the exhaust or not yet. Also down the track I intend to strip and rebuild the engine with over sized, high comp pistons etc. I'm going for bulk torque, not horsepower.

I'll add more pictures as the work progresses. Nothing much interesting now except a large collection of parts.

Is that a torched frame?

Luckily, no. That's just a weird lighting artifact from the flash and an indoor shot. There's a bit of dirt around the rear of the frame from where the donor bike was obviously troweled in the dirt, but the frame I've already checked is straight.

None right now. I have a list of parts that I need to start assembling the bike. Mostly bolts, bearings etc. I should be hitting up Ron Ayers for a heap of bits within the next week or two.

I've got a woody just looking at those cool pieces-parts. It's the stuff Christmas dreams are made of.

I should have some new pics in about 2 weeks. Parts are on order and I'm just waiting for them to show up. With the Christmas break that's slowed things down a lot. Most of the bits were the small things like engine frame and suspension linkage bolts etc. I also scored a second complete engine and frame with salvage title on eBay a couple of days ago for $360, so I'll have a heap of spare extras then

Also, nabbed a second set of 929 forks, clamps and axles for $200. I think my Blackbird is about to get a set of USD forks

You said you have a GSXR1000 oil cooler that you are going to use. Do you know if this is this a direct bolt up? I have been wanting a larger oil cooler but don't know what will fit.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.

No it's not. The lines are a bit different. The VTR inlets are in the rear of the cooler, where the GSXR lines come in from the top. I was lucky that my purchase included the mounting lines for the gixxer part, so with a bit of flexible hosing and some creative welding, I'll be able to mate it up pretty easily.

Just a short update to say that I've got the front half of the bike assembled now, just missing some bigger brake discs (got some bids on them on eBay). I have a heap of pictures, but the most recent update to Win2K broke my photo editing program. It won't start without crashing now Will look into some upgrades and get something posted in the next couple of weeks. Next project is fabricating the custom dogbone needed for the VFR swingarm.

Mithrandir,
It's been a while. You can't leave us hanging like this (a least those of us building fighters too)!! Love to see what you have going on down there.

Just found this thread, very interesting project.

One question, can you ride this bike on road legally?
