My other bike - VTX 1800
I wanted to share the transition that my other bike made this summer. It is a Honda VTX1800C (2002 model)
at this point, the bike is all the way down to paint the engine after i put on the new water pump
everything in primer and silver base color going on...
here's where it starts to get interesting
And here’s the final paint pics
And here is all the details……tank seam filled, paint and airbrush work is by Dirk W. Myers, aka Hoss1 from the VTXOA board…outstanding work, FAST and inexpensive considering all the work and detail he put into this paint job.
I knew getting into this, it would be a love/hate type paint job...but I love it, pictures can't do it justice.
I wanted something that was uniquely VTX (the mask for any of you that may be familiar with the bike) but with a little something extra...Dirk does a hell of a job freehand on the airbrush and ideas started to flow once we started talking. helps that he's only a few hours from me so we could talk it out in person.
started as a 2002 C model
now running:
Wide Open Customs fairing & stereo
Retro model tank (higher capacity) with tank seam filled
Retro dash (started all over at 0 miles 8) )
front fender rivets removed
F model radiator cover
blacked out the engine
blacked out the final drive
'custom' black paint on the rotors
new running lights & blinkers for up front
a set of F model wheels (not in all the pictures)
oh, and that new water pump before I left for Colorado
the breakin run was 2000+ miles out and back for the Colorado VTX Ride in July....even took 1st Place for Best Custom Paint. The little lady and I had to ride in rain all but one of the 6 days we were there....plenty dirty after getting home (see the last few pics)
I've been riding so much that I really haven’t been able to keep it clean long enough to get some good scenic shots, but here are a few in the garage before I left for CO and some from my 3300+ mile route to Sturgis:
Proof it gets ridden and dirty
here it is at Independence Pass
and Yellowstone
Berthoud Falls in CO
One of the many times we crossed the continental divide
and my favorite picture so far:

got a good friend with a 1300 and he's always bugging me to swap for a day...don't know if i could do that to him, he'd have to get back on his 1300 eventually

Thats funny! I used to have an '86 Honda Shadow 1100 as well. I loved my Shadow. The VTX1300 seemed like a pile of crap compared to the Shadow. Might just have been the one I owned, but I wouldn't recommend the bike to anyone.

I've put 12000+ miles on since I got it (gently) used in January of 2007 and my only gripe was when the water pump started to go. replaced that myself in a couple hours and got right back to riding the next day.
I had two cruisers for a while but eventually traded the shadow in a deal for the SHawk...I'm a very happy camper with my bikes definitely not lacking in the TORQUE department

It may be because I grew up in the 80's but the shot of the silver logo, with on a flat background reminded me of this logo.
This is one of the transformers logo's.
Very nice paint job. Glad to see that its a Honda.
Looks like a nice bike - for a cruiser :d
