my new project...
my new project...
vstar 1100...

i'll start off with removing the slip-ons and installing the stock exhaust, then pull the windscreen, crashbars, floorboards & saddle bags.
first mod... fork springs kit ! omg !!! talk about loosy goosy.
i see why these are so popular, great motor and a+ tranny.
it's a bit odd to wrap my head around what i've done but i still love to ride, but to ride in pain is no joy. i will pull her apart over the winter and see what enjoyment i have come spring...

Good luck. I hope it works out for the better for ya. I've made the switch four times back and forth between Sport/Cruiser for comfort and other reasons and always gone back to the sport bikes. VT1100C2 ACE to CBR900RR to VTX1800C back to CBR900RR to ZZR1200 to VT1100C Spirit (still have it but don't know for how much longer) and now onto a VTR1000F rebuild project this winter. The VT1100C was a wreck rebuild project over last winter. No matter how you look at it, you'll have a great time making it yours!

My mother in-laws bike is the 650 version of the 1100 you have. It handles surprisingly well but is under powered and runs out of cornering clearance really fast. By the way the bike will feel way better without the windscreen IMO. Once I took the one off the 650 it actually felt like a bike again since the windscreen really comes into your personal space on the bike. Looks like a good quality find though.

looking for some stock pipes so i can pull off the hard krome ones. will need to pull the carbs to see what mods have been done if any, float bowl screws look untouched but the A/F plug has been drilled out. the one thing i forgot
to do before i bought it was pull a spark plug.
yamaha has their AIS ( air induction system ) will need to pull all of that to cure the backfire.
it has about 4" bar risers to bring the bars closer to the seat, feels ok but i'll have to sit on a stocker to see
how that feels. i like the 'look' of the bars with the stock setup better.
before the test ride i checked the oil and 'asked' about tire pressure, once home i checked and it was WAY low. no wonder the front end felt crappy, aired up the front & rear and went for a short spin. it really was fun but i'll still get new fork spring.
i'll also look and see what i can do about the chrome rivots....

now i don't mind the motor being chromed but all the other bits will have be be removed or blacked out. geez the way it is now i'm going to be washing it all the time.

Tim, hit me up if you want to have me build some custom pipes. I owe you some labor. We can build some stylin' glass packs!
If the bars are anything like what is on my mother in-laws bike stock you have a better setup with the risers. Those stock bars kill my shoulders after a hundred miles I can't take much more and a break doesn't help. As soon as I get back on I am in pain again.

I think with a little time and determination we can cafe your bike

just like "slamming it" or "lift it", but stock will just not do.
LMK if you want help with anything
