CB750 Cafe Racer Build
Started this build about a month ago with the intention of doing all the fabricating , painting and building myself. First step was getting this ugly beast running ... took me a week of carb cleaning and some rigging of wires and she fired first turn !
Now on to the build : CHEAP , CHEAP , CHEAP ! I only plan to buy what I cant salvage ... Chain , Tires , etc.
So the build began ... this is the first photo of her in a little corner where she will be torn down.
Sorry for the shitty photo .. took it with my phone one late night.

Hey gang . Long thoughts on where to go with the build !
1976 CB750 SOHC
21'000k on speedo
perfect condition , free aquire !
Now , as i said ... i am thinking a more modern build with salvaged new model parts. of course keeping the classic style in mind, lets just give her a lil new gear!
I was thinking shocks , swing-arm , pegs , moto exhaust , and other cosmetics. Any suggestions ?
Got more photos to come , the rear sets are done !

Check out http://forums.sohc4.net for selling and info.
Also have you considered fixing this one up stock since as you said it is perfect. Then sell it to buy a bike already in need of a project anyways?

I have Corn ... And I thought that through. So keeping that in mind , I carefully took everything off and stored it without any hacking. I also have kept the frame cutting to a minimum so this could be restored to original condition or sell it as a lot. I have only cut the seat tabs so far.
I was also planning to auction off the 76 "cheesey" components when it came time to acquire extra funds for the build.
Plan to post some more pics today ... stay tuned !

Hope to get a lil' time in the tear down this evening ... got a car to get ready for a show Saturday , but i should be able to squeeze in an hour or so.
Was looking to put some newer 35mm shocks on it , but having a time finding anything from salvage... If anyone stumbles accross any for a CBR 600 or whatever , let me know.
Thanks ,
DENO

I was planning to cut just the useless stuff from the frame, remove all the Honda extras, turn signals , and so forth. I would like to keep the removal to a minimum and keep everything that was removed just in case i choose to build her stock again.
I am looking at some CBR 600 fork sets , new tires , chain and maybe new shocks. I was also thinking of running 4 to 1 gp style exhaust with an aftermarket slip on.
Everything else will be restored and all fabrication will be done by me. I dont want to spend much ... trying to keep this a budget build.

Caliper From Hell!
After a week of soaking in PB Blaster, I was finally able to make some progress on tearing down the front caliper. I had to torch it for a few minutes, blow the valve and. . . POW . . . The frozen piston flew out !
Yeeha !
Here is a shot of the caliper cleaned

The tear down
Just about done with the disassembly. Front end and motor should be out real soon.
Got the master cylinder apart, now I have to rebuild it. Funny , the seals seem to be bad in it . . . ha ha ha.
Almost to frame, then I can cut and grind a lil' more and plan for paint!

Plan for Paint
So gang , I am real close to frame work and paint. I was thinking of going Candy Blue on the frame , and a hot Silver with a lil' pearl added to it for tank, cowl , and other misc. parts.
I am planning on keeping the polished aluminum look and clearing most of the engine components.
I don't want any chrome on this bike , If it's chrome , it will be painted !

Hello everyone ! Great news , Show season has come to a close ! What a summer. Lots of work and just way to busy to mess with the cafe build. The bike was put in a corner , covered , but not forgotten ! I am very anxious to get started again. Hope you guys will stay tuned as your support will be very much appreciated.
I pulled her out this weekend and piddled a little with it ... Progress is soon underway

Played with the carbs a bit today .... Probably shouldnt have been so rough ... lmao , I broke one of the float posts in the #3 carb ! Ouch ... seems to be holding with the one remaining post.
I am not to concerned though .. I was planning on upgrading the stock CV carbs to the Suzuki gs750 Mukini ones . Does anyone know what year fits best for the 76 cb750 ? I'm not sure , I have heard conflicting stories.

I have heard of people having success jb welding the post back in. There isn't a lot of pressure on it and in my experience so far jb weld has resisted gas doing anything to it.
Are the mikunis you are talking about the mechanical slide style?

Get one of these, and be careful with the carbs when you use it. It works better than trying to tap or hammer the pins out. This is a cheap one, by something nice.
