bbancsov build thread

Hey guys, thanks for those that voted for me on VTROTM August! A few people have been inquiring about the bike/build so I have put together a more detailed build thread about the bike. It started about 2 years ago, I bought the VTR and had been riding it for an entire season, instantly fell in love with the twin power, comfort etc... but never was crazy about the looks of the bike.

So I tore it apart and started brainstorming ideas based on some of my favorite production/custom bike builds below:

Knifemaker's custom CBR (This is where the CF seed was planted)

A friends KTM Superduke R

I knew I wanted to do something with CF and try my hand at it. I also wanted to do some of the mods that would help the VTR out in terms of stability and braking so I did the braced swing-arm, and gsxr1000 calipers on the front brakes. I had seen another member on here with a grey/yellow VTR do the open clutch cover and decided to do mine the same way. In the process I bought a powder-coating kit and got to work on powder-coating the following:

- Clutch Cover (Jet Black)
- Front forks & Swingarm (Porsche Silver)
- Wheels, Pressure plate and spring (Lollipop Red)

Also, in the mean-time I bought a second bike so that I could ride it while I worked on the VTR which delayed things quite a bit...

While I was at it I took apart the exhaust and had the pipes ceramic coated and built the carbon canister's and used Jardine RT-1's inners to button it all back up.

After redoing the body work three times, yes three times sanding the epoxy down to the carbon and reapplying layers (I will never cheap out on epoxy every again) the fairings were finally ready for clear-coat. (This is what took up a good portion of the 2 year build)

I originally wanted to do a projector style headlight and mocked up a few ideas but in the end I decided since I already have 1 full faired v-twin that I would go a different direction with this and made it into a streetfighter instead. Bought a buell 1125cr headlight and wired that up with a cf windscreen that I made from a mold.

This was the end result after 2.5 pain-staking years. It's by no means perfect or a show bike but I am extremely pleased with it.

And a video of the clutch cover with the bike running? I'd like to see things spinning and oil splashing everywhere...

Cool. Looks inspired by a Buell 1125CR. Same headlight?

I want the clear clutch cover, way cool!

Did one to my brothers TLS.

Currently looking for an engine clutch cover as I can't bring myself to hack up my nice polished clutch engine case.

Will be visiting a certain Bike Wrecker in Sydney Oz shortly.

Haha it actually failed due to a low-speed low-side. I don't think they test for that in their validation of the shift system. I don't have any killboy/slayer albums, just the pictures i've bought from them over the years.

bbancsov,

When you did your clear clutch cover did you make up a retainer ring for the clear piece, or simply bolt it in?

What is your clear material, Lexcen or poly? and what size is the hole that you cut in the cover?

Sorry to bug you , if you had some more detailed pics and information about how you did this it would be appreciated.

Thanks

You do if you ran the dragon. What date/time were you there? In the pre stages of a new shirt design. Might need some high res pics.... just sayin'. They'd have to be pre-fightered though.

There are 3 "sandwhich" brackets on the inside of the case cover that tighten the are tapped and put pressure on the Lexan from the bolt. The bolt sizes are 1/4-20. First go-around i just tapped the lexan and screwed the bolts into it but it ended up with little spider cracks all around so then i made 3 brackets to help secure it. I'll see if i can dig up some pictures of them
