1996 cbr 600 F3
ok guys i have a few questions...
first has anyone ever had one of these bikes?
second how did you like it?
i have the opportunity to pick one up, needs some work but the engine only had 2200 miles on it and its only $1500
i drove it yesterday and man it needed carb work...sluggish and honestly slow, my 78 kz 650 would have blown it away
let me know your thoughts!!!
thanks guys

I had a 1991 CBR600F2, which was very similar, and it was a great bike. Fast enough, handled good and bulletproof reliable in the face of many years of very hard use. Although not as top end weighted as the newer 600s, which are completely gutless before about 10,000 rpm, you still need to wring its neck to make it go. While reasonably "torquey" for a 600, the F2 didn't really get going until 9000 rpm.
I rode the **** out of that bike and loved it.

I almost got a F3 instead of the VTR. They're very nice bikes -- plenty fast, good handling, comfortable. The CCTs and reg / rec fail on them just like they do on the SH, but you could do a lot worse for 1.5k.
I helped my buddy pick one up as his first bike. my impressions of it were: decent power for a mid-90's 600, easy to ride, more comfortable than the hawk, very reliable with the exception of the fuel pump. it kept dying even after he got a new one. but other than that, rock solid. good beginner bike.
f3 is a great bike, one of the best 600's I have ridden (from a smoothness, comfortable, and decent handling). There is one that keeps riding past our shop that is running on 3 cylinders. Sounds like hell, and he is so proud of it. That cylinder is going to be screwed.
I've had F3's for the street and also for the track. What a great bike! If I could find another clean one I would probably pick it up.
Don't expect power that is anything like the VTR. That's not to say it won't wheelie all day long though. Old technology steel frame and RWU forks don't offer super-duper performance but it's not bad either. All in all it's a terrific bike - even by today's standards.

well thanks a bunch guys, this bike to me was a decent investment, which i am not 100% sold on yet, i already have my 78 kz 650 that i have my own blood sweat and tears put into that needs most likely... a new engine...and storing my bikes in my parents garage...i feel like 3 would put them over the edge, however the seller told me that if i was interested in it he would put some money into fixing the rear set and the carb issue, which would make a hell of a difference in my decision, i figure parts are quite readibly available for these bikes, am i correct?
also does anyone know of or have a mid 70's kz engine I-4 preferably for sale?
