Stalling issue

Hi all,

Bit of a stalling issue,

bike starts and idles fine, seems to run fine,

the problem seems to happen when slowing down to come to a stop, then the bike will some times stall once stopped, or if I slow down to do a sharp U turn the bike will stall as I'm tipping in to do the turn.

Just wondering if any of you knowledgeable guys might have some suggestions of what may be causing this, as I've got no confidence at the moment riding as I never am sure when it may stall when stopping at intersections etc !

I have the idle set at around 1500rpm, 91 unleaded fuel.

Try relocating the carburetor float bowl vents so they are pointing down. Chances are they are still in the stock position, which is the free end poked through a hole in the bracket that connects the carbs together. I think there was a service bulletin many years ago to correct this problem.

Thanks for the reply,

yes I was thinking the same thing, may give that a try this weekend, while doing so, I may swap the plugs while I'm at it.

Bit of an update with the stalling issue,

I'm no mechanic, I just try different things and see what works and what doesn't,

seems like the problem is fixed, these are the things I did/tried to fix the stalling,

Firstly, I pulled out the hoses under the carbs,

took off the rubber bands,

and put the hoses in a downward position, not really sure if this is correct, but didn't seem to have any effect, didn't make things better or worse !

Next, thought I would investigate the TPS, see what it was set at !?

Tank up,

open up the air box to remove the air filter,

this is when I discovered that the carb filters were badly deteriorated and would probably take a few weeks to get new ones,

so, thought I would for now, make some out of lawn mower pre-filter and a squirt of K&N filter oil to get me by until I can get some new filters,

I just made a paper pattern, then cut out the foam filters,

Then onto the TPS,

removed the security Torx bolts and replaced with Allen head bolts,

got out the multimeter and connected to the top and middle pins,

had a reading of 830,

adjusted the TPS anticlockwise until I got as close to 500 as I could,

then back together it all goes,

and with my DIY filters sprayed with a little K&N oil,

Pulled the spark plugs while I was at it, didn't have new ones on hand, but did have an old set that I cleaned with some carb cleaner and put those in until I get some new ones that will go in with the new filters,

rear plug seems dirtier that the front plug, but the cleaned up plugs should be better than the dirty plugs I'm thinking !?

Been for three decent rides,

Carb cough has basically gone, did it once on the first ride and hasn't done it since,

hasn't stalled once so far, touch wood ,

TPS adjustment is amazing, bike is running so much better, smoother, feels like more power, bike wants to lift the front with harder acceleration,

so I'm hoping this has fixed my problems, and maybe helps some one else having similar issues, possibly try some of the things I tried, adjust your TPS, check carb filters.
