trying to figure out which chain to get

ok ,so my chain is stretched out to the limit ,and my question is , which chain should i go with ? I've been looking at D.I.D ,and RK ,and some others ,but i'm not real sure of what the 520 or 530 is ???? i've looked in the manual and it gives a couple part #'s as a replacement but i can't seem to find them ,atleast not where i've looked .I really would appreciate your guys' opinions . thanks

Unless you want to replace the sprockets with thinner ones, you need a 530, 102 links of the proper tensile strength.

The manufacturers and most sellers list application if not by specific bike, by engine displacement and horsepower.

If it was me I'd buy the cheapest name brand 530 O ring listed as strong enough for my bike.

yeah ,i was doing a little more searching and i think i'm going with a " Tsubaki Sigma 530 hi-performance o-ring with a tensil strength of 10,600 " , that runs at $170 shipped ,i guess that'll do , what do you guys think ?

How are the sprockets? You usually wanna replace the chain and sprockets together.

The worn sprockets will wear the chain quicker.

I'm sure that would work fine, but if you're cheap (like me) I think you can find a 530 O ring plenty strong for the VTR for a lot less money.

Both sprockets, you choose how many teeth, and a chain for under 200. Good product too

the sprokets don't look all that bad ,they aren't all sharp pointed and still have the machined flat tips , but i live a mile and half down a dirt road i think i get premature wear out of the chain anyway ,

I have the tsubaki sigma 530. search around you might find it cheaper, it seemed on the high end of prices for chains but I found one on ebay for an old honda that was going cheap. make sure they give you a master link with whereever you buy or you can end up paying another 3-6 bucks for a rivet type. As for how much to spend, depends on how much use you get out of them. they normally last quite a long time with maintenance and our bikes aren't exactly power houses. Depending on how many miles a year you ride that cost could be spread out over quite a long time. If you aren't going to replace the sprockets I'd agree, go cheaper because its going to wear faster, even if they look fine to you, using the old ones.

I was in the same boat as you last winter, chain was junk but sprockets were fine.. I got a good quality new (but opened) DID chain on ebay for $78 shipped.. DON'T spend more than like $140 for a chain unless it comes with sprockets.. Theres no need for like a $250 quadruple X-ring chain with dimond dust links, on a superhawk.. Just stick with a decent name brander, and you'll be good.
