TPS experiment over

Last weekend I performed the TPS adjustment as recommended by many VTR owners. In so doing, I moved the setting down from 837 (stock) to 477. Despite taking a few rides during the week, I could find no positive effect except for a very slightly smoother engine (again, barely detectible). On the other hand, I did find that my throttle response and power seemed to suffer noticeably. Snapping the throttle with the bike in neutral, it seemed slower to respond. Low-end and mid-range power (short-shifting away from traffic lights and performing roll-ons at freeway speeds) it also seemed that the bike was not as snappy. So, today, I reset the TPS back to 821 ohms. I have just returned from a quick ride and my snappy Storm is back.

As I undertook this mod, I was hoping to get an improvement in performance/throttle performance (one guy reported it felt like he had gained 10 hp). IN my case, it felt as though I had LOST 10 hp. Looks like the TPS will be staying at the higher setting from now on.

I just thought I would share this with the rest of you.

cheers

Re: TPS experiment over

i too have had a failure with this tps mod my friend. my hawk was also "out of range." after i set it to spec i had a very noticeable flat spot. i returned it to where it was before and the flat spot went away.

man, that's weird. I've never heard of negative results from calibrating the TPS.

I've definately noticed less.. low end knock and pinging? Perhaps I went a little far, and ~600 would be better - but overall I am happy with the mod. I need to balance the carbs, etc, first to be sure of what's up, as it does seem just a bit low on power.

Does the bike memorize what WOT is? Maybe reseting the computer would help?
