Stands- which ones are best?

I'd like t pick up a decent stand for my SH this winter, but am wondering if the Pitbulls are the only way to go (thinking rear, mainly) or other cheaper ones shown on eBay are adaquate. Bike I am buying needs lots of cleaning and I want to bleed the brakes, etc etc... so need good access.

Anyone purchased a generic one and been happy with it? I'd hate to save a few bucks and dump the bike as a result.

thx

jim

I have an LP rear... and it's been just fine. I also just picked up a DMP for the front (one that pins under the lower triple)... seems like a decent stand for the money... I think I got it for 65 shipped...

Pitbull ones are nice. I have some ones made by Dan Kyle but I do not know if he still makes them. You might want to explore the option of having some spools put on the rear swingarm. So that you can use a spool stand instead of a lip style stand.

I too have/had a set of Handy stands for $99. They were good enough, especially considering the price.

I would consider getting a triple-tree stand that lifts the bike from the upper triple. It costs a little bit more than a regular fork-lift stand, but is great for removing the front wheel and forks.

I'm currently using all Pit Bull stuff, but the Handy stands get occasional use and they're still good (four years later).

thanks!

Thanks guys. I have a 3-ton cherry picker (engine hoist) that I presume I could use with nylon straps on the upper triple, but won't know til I try it. but the rear a swingarm stand (once I get spools) or the axle spools seems like the way to go. The DMP etc are a brand name I take it? I'll have to browse Dennis Kirk, Bike Bandit, etc.... my usual suppliers.

Now to get rid of the 18" of snow on the ground up here in MI... can't even take it home yet on the trailer, with the crappy weather. : (

+1 4 PB

PB are the best US made stands going. I sell PB stands thru my shop to selected clientele...See want you want at http://www.pit-bull.com/motorcycle-stands.shtml, get some local pricing, and if you like PM me. I recommend the SS Rear stand (std & spooled and installing spools) and the Forklift & Converter Pkg. If you want a set for the long hall, you get what you pay.

I bought a cheap set last year, I think they're black widow or something. They were around $100. The only issue i had was the rubber pads on the rear stand peeled off the second time i used them. Just bought some of the plasti-dip stuff you use for tool handles and dunked the brackets in it, seems to be holding up pretty well.
