spring is here

the weather has finally turned for the better here in moncton nb canada.
it seems as if monday's snow storm is to be the last major dump.
the temps are above 0*c just about every afternoon.
the snow banks are melting.
tomorrow we're supposed to hit +9*c.
i expect to see bikes out soon.

Small World.

I've been to Moncton, job duties required me to visit the Canadian Tire store and do service on a display for them.

I am embarrassed by how little we 'Staters know about our gonzo neighbors to our north. I came home impressed by the odd combination of huge brass ***** and literate politeness that is the Canadian hallmark.

I came to miss the maritime provinces, especially that rock called home to the Newfies. Gonna tour on two wheels someday.

With all due respect to everyone else in the world, in my experience "Newfies" are the kindest people anywhere.

i saw miguel and spoke french to him. that stopped him in his tracks and we had a nice chat. his parents(yvon duhammel) were staying at our hotel. they are super nice too. mario's pit was accross from ours. i think he must be jealous of the younger miguel being so successful.

mladin is a first class ***.

Both. Canadian Tire Corporate required that the displays in each of their stores be serviced at least twice a year. As a result, in a period of time, I eventually made a visit to ALL the stores across Canada. Every one of them.

I've seen more of Canada than any Canadian now living. Tofino Beach BC, Yellow Knife NWT, Edmonton AB, Saint John's NFL, Port Aux Basques? Been there, done that. In the winter. Have a nice day, Eh?

My only criticism of Canada is about the Border Control. They are less organized than our own ICE (or name your own local LEO). After landing in Calgary in February I was asked the purpose of my visit. Being honest, I told all and presented my papers. They sank into abject confusion and dithered about while consulting upper management. Finally, after waiting two hours and displaying my Florida drivers license and saying "If you think I'm a problem, send me home, deny me entry, I've got no problem with that". Looking from the license to the snow covered parking lot then to me, the agent passed me in.

Glad it wasn't Queen Mum's birthday, I'd still be waiting.

And now Bombardier is building a three wheeler. Go Canada! (There's a pun there if you look for it.)

oh yeah, those border "agents" are special. for us canadians coming home they only care about one thing: money. it's terribly obvious that they are 100% trained to collect duties and taxes. and let me tell you, the canadian government knows how to squeeze the pocket change out of you.

port aux basques is in newfoundland.

what display did you work on? next time i'm in there i will check it out!
