Soooo went to the DR. Wed.
My ankles were still bothering me from the Dec. 10th get off so I went to the DR. the other day and guess what, it seems I fractured both of my legs and messed up my tendons!! I've got a major bone bruise and fluid still on the left ankle and badly sprained tendons. On the right I have a healing fracture and a split lenght wise on the tendon on the outside of the ankle. I guess they couldn't see the fractures on the regular X-rays but she caught it with the MRI. The bitch is I have to wear this freaking walking cast/boot for 4-6 weeks and then we'll see where I'm at, after that if it's not healed we'll talk about surgery!!
The even bigger bummer is no racing for at least that time period and I have a major track jones going on. I think I have track DT's, I'm even shaking a little from withdrawals!! Help I need my track pipe man!!!

That sucks sorry to hear that Mike. I was just talking to Doug about how he's healing up I figured you were pretty much all better by now. That's why I just don't go to the friggin doctor. Seriously though good that you found out and caught it and keep from possibly doing more damage. Hope you heal up with the boot and don't need to have surgery...Best wishes...

Thanks Beau, me too belive me, I'm not up to not riding on the track for as long as months. She said I probably would've healed in about 8 or 9 months if I didn't go............probably. You should see the looks I get riding the hawk with this big boot on, take.....double take.....triple take.......shaking heads!

Hope it goes well without surgery, I don't like surgery...
I know about the ankles....I've got an ankle that just won't hold up, prior injury I guess.....keeps giving out on me, either spraining or flopping sideways on a hard step and putting me on my face. But it's not a big issue so to hell with the doctors....if I ever wanna play sports I'm screwed, but for just doing ordinary stuff I only sprain it once every couple months, so to hell with it
At least you get to ride your bike while you heal, even if it is awkward!

I watched that bike body slam your legs more than once and was amazed that you were just reporting soreness on the forum. Beau is right that it's good that you found out and are taking a break to let it heal. I was thirty y-o when I broke my ankle and was in a cast for a year. PT for two and a half after I got out of plaster. God forbid that you would push it (we all know you better) on the track without knowing and crash again. The damage could be much, much worse. Of course, I'm sure there's someone a whole lot closer than Texas telling you something very similar. RacingJohnson is just going to have to cool it for a while. It's no different than any pro-athlete and his sport. None of them think about anything throughout the whole experience other than getting back in the game. Good luck!

I can imagine. I remember when I broke my leg in 2 places, tore my knee and ankle up and smashed all of my toes I gave my buddy my crutches and took off on his TL1000. Talk out withdrawal I couldn't take it anymore... ever seen on any sunday when the dude breaks his back and soaks the friggin cast off in the tub and is back dirt track racing in a couple weeks?

Thanks guys! That was the whole reason I went to see another DR. the pain wasn't too bad and I could deal with it but I would just be walking normally and it would just give out on me. I went to get some pizza out of the kitchen last week and half way there I fell to my knees for no reason!! I was like hmmm guess I better do something about this, although I reeeally didn't want to go, had a feeling I wasn't going to like the news. A month I an handle but much more than that I think I will go nuts.

that is a tough deal. my sister broke hers last winter and her local guys missed a break on xrays thought it was just a sprain. Wasted 3 months walking around then finally went for another opinion andthey found two breaks in the ankle, now with air around and fluid. surgery, delays. it really pays to get another opinion like you did, especially if you aren't better. Be sure the one you are seeing now is an expert also - I realize its hard to decipher that, but ankles are very tough.

Luckily my wife's a trauma nurse so she knows who to see and who to stay far away from and this DR. came highly recomended. I just wish they could've seen these things on the X-rays 3 months ago so I could've been healing correctly to begin with. I'm sure the trip to the gravel pit on the Homestead track didn't help either.

Yeah and then you look like this.... while you scrape yourself up off the floor. Same thing happened with my knee, I walked around on that for 2 years before I found out I had a total acl tear. I was fine until I kept falling down for no reason.

Ouch man. I also hope you don't have to do surgery. When I fell off the bike (December 10th...also...! ), I tore some ankle ligaments that just haven't fully healed. I think they are, but the moment I try some quick movement with the ankle, the ligaments give out.

That sucks man!! I didn't know you went down again and on the same day no less, must've been something in the air that day. I went out and bought some Sidi vertigo corsa boots after my wreck, much nicer boot then the ones I crashed in. I think I might sell them soon and get the new Puma boots though, those look awesome and they lock up when they get to a certain angle to protect you from doing this. They're not out yet,(for us in the U.S.) but you can pre-order them on cyclegear.com the exclusive U.S. distributor, damn I sound like a comercial.

I was just going to ask what people are wearing for boots: I know there are some updated and new models with better crush protection also and wondering what would be best for track riding. I have a 4 year old sidi verterbra that is comfortable but sure seems flimsy compared to the newest stuff. what did you have on when you crashed?

The Vertigo Corsas I wanted are the blue/yellow limited edition ones, but they didn't carry them in my size.

I've heard REALLY good things about those sercurity boots but DAMN they're EXPENSIVE!!!

I had on some Oxtar evo boots, good street boot at best, they claimed to have protection againts twisting and hyper-extension but aparently not enough. I'm not really sure any boot would fully protected me from what happened but I'm not taking any chances from now on. After totally obsessing and researching every boot on the market I came up with the Sidi Corsa's, the A* Supertech or the Teknic Speedstar. I really wanted the Puma's but they weren't available but now that they are coming I'm seriously thinking of getting those. They have a progessive protection system the farther your foot bends the more it resists.

hate to hear that. hope you heal up quick. About 10 years ago I split both ankles and they never healed right. I had some serious issues with walking and running was out of the question until I went to a specialist. She gave me some customed gel inserts that took about 85% of the pain away and has actually allowed me to run again. Last year there was a guy up at deals gap riding with an air boot on
