so umm... I'm not getting popping anymore on decel...
stupid yes but I'm wondering why... Maybe from running 93 the last two tanks instead of 91 like normal?? i have full exhaust and stage 3 jet kit... any ideas???

yeah it was cold out. I was wondering if that maybe had an affect. I was just nervous cause normally it does and was hoping nothing was wrong with it...

I know that popping....It was cold out here yesterday, on a 75 mile loop, she popped the whole ride....I use 93 gas, so did the previous owner...Wonder if there is anything that can be done to get rid of it??

that's just the opposite of mine. it was cold like low to mid 40's and she didn't pop at all. I love the popping on decel. heh. I'll try 91 next time to see if there's a diff

Believe it or not it actually runs better on 87 or 89 octane unless you've done engine work to it. I know I didn't think so either until I read it here and tried it out. Low compression engine is the reason.

does higher octane gas really make a difference? i would like to use the 87 because its cheaper but will it hurt my engines performance?

Re: so umm... I'm not getting popping anymore on decel...
no. 87 or 89 really is best since it's low compression. It won't hurt to throw in higher but it'll actually run better on the lower octane. In case you're unaware, lower octane has more energy then higher octane. Higher octane is designed for high compression motors so it won't combust due to the compression stroke of the motor causing early detonation messing up the motor. Lower octane would detonate from the compression before the spark hits it. We don't have high compression motors and unless you've done engine work with cams and raising the compression any there's no need to run higher. I actually am not liking the way my bike is running on 93. 91 seemed to run real well. Haven't tried 89 or 87....

so most people either arent aware of this or think it does in fact improve performance? so i am OK running 87 and paying the $2.45 out here in Los Angeles...sweet. i will try it out next tank and see if i feel any difference.

Re: so umm... I'm not getting popping anymore on decel...
for the stock motor I'd probably personally run mid grade... Though I'd almost just say try each grade and ride whichever feels best. Only way I'd bump up the grade is if you hear pinging of the engine (it'll sound like pings... don't know how else to describe it) Though I doubt it'll do that on a stock motor... I have a little carb work and full exhaust so I feel a little more comfortable running 91. I'm gonna try mid and low grade in the spring though... (putting my bike up for winter soon)
