Should I buy 02 Super Hawk

I lady near me is selling an 02 superhawk 1000 for $2500 with only 10k miles on it, from the pictures it looks to be very clean bike, and she is original owner. I'm going to take a look at it in the next few days and she said I could test ride it with cash in hand. A few questions I have though are, what are things to look out for? Right now she has the auto CCTs on it so I should change those pretty much immediately. But besides that what should I look for, what sounds should I listen for? Also do you avid SH fans believe it's a good deal?

Thank you for your input I appreciate it greatly!

My experience with the VTR is that it is a good fun and reliable bike. With only 10k miles in 17 years it hasn't had much use so I'd be slightly concerned about the age of the tyres (old tyres go hard and can crack) and how clean the carbs may or may not be (carbed bikes that sit around can get gummed up jets as the fuel evaporates). Visual inspection for the first and a cold start and ride test looking for hesitation would suffice for the second. I'd also look into the tank and check for the presence of rust. You are right to switch out the auto CCTs ASAP as these fail without warning (or so I'm told).

She sent me a video of the bike cranked and everything sounded good on it, the carbs sounded clean no farts or chugs as far as I can tell, however the seller revved it a little bit and it seemed to idle at a higher RPM (?) Not really sure what to make of it, could be that the throttle got stuck. if you drop your email I can send you the video

Besides all the common used bike observations from anything from plastics of been repainted to oil drain plug‘s been JB welded in place engine case damage when a chain came off and then of course normal rent ability stuff

cam chain tensioner’s are in issue on this bike.
As is the charging system
when you sit on the bike listen for creeks and groans from the shock linkage indicating it’s not been serviced depending on how long it’s been that way it can either be just disassemble grease and reassemble all the way to replacing all of the parts because they’ve eaten themselves due to being dry

If you have a voltage meter available to you take it with you

I have to ask just because I don’t know, I have a voltage meter, but for what purpose would it be used for in this instance? My brother is going with me he has an 01 SH and I’m fairly confident that he knows what to look/listen for he does all of the work on his himself.

Lift the seat (key goes in the rear fender) and connect the VM across the battery terminals, set to 20v DC. You're expecting to see the charging system applying 13.5-14.5V to the battery when the engine is running and the revs are up (3000rpm should be plenty). That will tell you whether the charging system works. Less than that would suggest a failing regulator/rectifier.
