lotsa hate to go around in some of these comments. I'm sure its mostly in gest, but some of it is over the top. bottom line - whether its a 3 point turn, someone backing out of a driveway, someone flatted on the road, an accident, a farm equipment, a road crew and oil spill - its all OUR problem coming around the corner. you can deny it or figure a way to reduce your risks.

98ILVTR - Glad to hear your ok! The bike can be repaired so thats great news. Do you think you should wait to spend money on repairs until you are able to track her down and turn her in for leaving the scene and performing an illegal maneuver in the middle of a blind 55mph corner which caused you to take it into the ditch? I would hope her insurance would payup if confronted with witnesses and a potential lawsuit.

It sucks when there is a hazard of any type that causes you to go down. But I agree with Cliby to some extent. When I went down while hanging off in a left hander 20 years ago, I had hit spilled diesel fuel. I recovered and avoided the high side only to have too much speed for the next corner. If the diesel wasn't there I wouldn't have crashed, but if I'd been taking that corner at a "safe speed", I most likely wouldn't have crashed either.

We take risks by riding to begin with, but we also multiply that risk if we chose to push it.

Bottom line is I still hope that woman gets some kind of punishment for leaving the scene.

we could write a book on all the possibilities relative to what could be found on the roadway around blind turns and over the crests of hills. I try to slow before cresting hills and cover the brake with two fingers and use some restraint on blind curves as well, but it ain't easy and i don't always abide. Life is terminal and aggressive street riding is as dangerous as it gets, so I remind myself of this before each ride and hope i get to live to ride another day.

Glad your ok. File a police report and if the lady is issued a citation file a claim with her insurance company.A ticket is proof of wrongdoing.
