I guess as a result of the loss of a sports icon (Kobe Bryant), that I had the privilege to meet and do some work for, I've had some reflections. I need to keep current with everyone who has been helpful in my 65 years on this planet. I find it a little sad that our forum is withering. Our beloved Super Hawk/Fire Storms have been out of production for 15 years, so it is to be expected. This will probably be the last bike I own as we just fit, and the new tech bikes don't have the same soul. I'll continue to modify and spend money on her. Because that's what we do. I've done almost everything that can be done to mine (don't ever look at all the receipts) with the exception of internal engine mods. That to will happen when I gather enough parts. I already have a spare engine so as to not have much down time.
Back to the point of this thank you. I want to thank all the members of this forum for the help over these last 7 years. Especially E. Marquez, Jack Flash, Captaincaos Jamie Daugherty, 8541 Hawk, and a many others that I can't recall, for the help with parts and tech advice, but more so for what you've done to support all the members with your expertise and advice. One of the cool things about this forum is the lack of haters. We may disagree on things but, few members ever maliciously attack like so many on social media. Thank You, a Super Hawk devotee

I go back to Greg's original VTR forum "runlevelzero" but after it died did not realize for a couple of years he created this forum. I'm also +65 and have been continuously riding (and used to road race) since I was 17. Consequently, I've seen a lot of great riders and bikes come and sadly go in the intervening years as well. Motorcycle technology has come so far since I swung a leg over my 1956 BSA Batman D3 Brightwell, which, with the Yamaha TD-2 screamers I raced, sold me forever on two smokes. I went through Kawasaki and Suzuki triples and twins, and still have my 77 RD400. Of course I now regret selling my Matchless, Triumph, Norton and AJS Brit bikes, my 73 H2 Mach IV and others but won't make that mistake with my VTR and RD.
I too have seen this forum dwindle from it's hayday but lurk if not participate each and every day. I too will hopefully be able to keep my bought new 98 VTR till I die. My saintly wife of 40 years says when I pass she'll embalm me in my ATGAT kit a cast me on top of my VTR in a block of acrylic and spot me in the living room for new suiters to see, though she vows she'll never remarry for obvious reasons. She's never complained about the receipts and what amounts literally to years I've left her alone with the kids while I wrenched, raced and rode.

I've likewise done most that I can to and for my beloved VTR except for an USD fork, which I've resisted doing to maintain what I think are it's classic looks. However, after over 110,000 miles and thoroughly revamping the suspension on my 15 FJ-09 (bought new in 16 now with +35k miles and also extensively modded), I will start looking for a suitable front end for the FOR to better balance the ride with the Penske shock and fork massaging done 15+ years ago.
SUGGESTIONS AND COMPONENT OFFERS WILL BE WELCOMED!!!
So I look forward to at least another 21 years together with my VTR (and G-d willing, of course 40+ more with SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED), and hope this forum and it's long suffering members are here with me to share and care!
BTW, I have 2 spare engines, a frame and swing arm and piles of boxes with 4 more sets of carbs, electrical and other bits to hopefully keep us going for the duration.

I would love to see more people like you both, you guy's bring wisdom, experience and hope, may the rest of us get to ride to your age and may we all get to ride to 120 years of age! Sounds cheesy, but why the hell not.
I also think there are here less haters simply because most VTR riders are adult riders and not the snowflake millennial type you find typically on other social media outlets.

Sharing knowledge Ive won though work, mistakes (lots of mistakes) and on the back of others is one of the few things that brings positivity to my life these days.
I never set out to make stuff for the VTR or other bike models I do....I made something for myself, others asked and I made one for them and so on.
I never set out to be a source of information....but its there in my head, my notes, in my garage and on my computer so why not..its paid for.
I very much miss the busier times in the forums over the FB groups/pages I follow now. There is little historical info to find in a FB group... what was knowledge asked for and gleaned this morning in a short series of posts is gone in an hour off the screen....never to be looked at again, so the same questions and same few folks giving facts and helpful info are back at it again the next hour.
And the haters in the FB groups...... they are as sure of their tripe as they are wrong in their facts and "suggestions" even with basic hard to argue mechanical things..Some will just never listen, or find out more from any other source then what they think they know. It seemed on forums like this one most will take a step back......read why something has a different opinion on which way to turn a left hand thread nut and then go look for more info themselves to be sure the new idea they read is correct OR NOT.
Learning from our mistakes! I pulled one of those Old Guy with TBI mistakes with my recent shock service. I have a JD OEM re-valved, re-sprung, shocks and just got a Slacker V3 so I decided to service all my rear suspension bearings and then set my sag, as I've lost a bit of weight. I could not get the correct or even consistent sag. After going back and forth with Jamie, I set up a contraption to mill 5mm off the lower spacer. Reassembled everything and the spring was at the suggested assembled height, perfect, untilI tried to set the sag. It was inconsistently worse! While pulling apart again I realized that I had grabbed an old connector link off the bench from an old donor swing arm. The bearing was a rusted/frozen mess! Switched it out for the service one and, guess what, way too much sag! Now I've got to get a new 10mm spacer. Thank God I like working on my SH. I've got suspension removal down to a science. LOL! plus now I also have a nice Motion Pro Sock Spring Compressor and fabricated a very usable device for one man lifting of the rear for suspension work.
On a serious note, Thanks for the lightened flywheel, R/R /harness , and the COP harness.

I'm still here but not as often - I'm not on any moto forums much in the past year, but I still have my 02 VTR - And I will never sell it! Even rode to work about a month ago & it was about 32 when the ride started - Brrrrr - was too lazy to put my Gerbings jkt liner on - Mistake! But heated grips still work.
And best mod ever was the Ohlins rear & Race Tech springs up front.
Not many miles anymore about 3k a season now - just ticked over 65k miles
I'd also like to add a joyful thank you! I bought my first street bike 2 years ago, a 98 superhawk. I fell in love. I bought a parts bike, a 05 superhawk with half the mileage and a salvage title due to a bent rear subframe and bad plastics. The 05 is now my main bike and my buddies working to rebuild the 98 to its former glory. If not for this forum I would have never worked out the kinks and hiccups I had. I've spent hours on here looking for a particular topic only to get drawn into about 15 others that are 100% irrelevant but I mean, who wouldnt want a lightened flywheel or a front end swap or a braced rear swing arm? before this bike I'd never even torn into a set of carbs before and now I've used my SH knowledge to help get my buddies "no good pos" bike to run. I hope to god this forum never dies because I'll be lost without it and between my superhawk, the wife's nightster and our goldwing, nothing quite compares to that angry throb of power when you rip the throttle coming out of a steep corner trying not to scare yourself coming into the next and nothing quite compares to asking a question on a forum and not pacing around thinking "s****... that's a dumb question... they're gonna eat me alive... maybe I should have worded that differently.." etc etc. The group of people that make up this forum are a collection of some of the world's best riding buddies
