You can be pretty successful getting units off of other bikes (and then you will stay street legal as well)

Price range? Look at the v-rod headlight, Wave headlight, or make your own out of an HID projector...

I went with this:

Honda CB1300 Hornet600 900 CB 400 Hornet900 Headlight | eBay

and blew a bulb within a few months. Very nice looking, though, and it's about as heavy as a beer fart.

The vast majority of the mask style headlights just use rubber straps or something similar to hose clamps to mount to the forks, so yes. However, I can pretty well gaurantee it is not DOT approved and lights like crap for street applications (though maybe suitable for off-road). There are several companies that make unit like this that are E rated and are thusly from Europe. They are bright, as I believe the E rating is a bit more stringent than DOT, but most of them would need to be reconfigured as the light offsets slightly to the left (oncoming traffic in this country) as opposed to right. They are also a lot more expensive.

Legality notwithstanding, you'll be pretty unsafe riding around with one of those... but it will fit.

Those things work best for stunters riding to their favorite parking lot so they don't damage the nice factory light.

Crashrat's $30 Hornet light looks like an awesome deal to me...

The link to the ebay item is in my post, but I'll see if I can snap a shot today. It's been raining here for nine days and the bike is under cover. Lots of SV owners switch to this headlight, so you might find some images over at their forum.
