Question for Superhawk22

G'day!

Quick question for you. You seem to have saved a lot of smilies on your PC, so you can insert them at will. I would like to be able to use some on the Australian forum.

How do you do it?

Cheers,
Shayne

I asked him this a while back. He opens a window from another forum that he belongs to and drags/drops them into his message text for this forum. I think it will work with any forum with similar software although I have not tried it.

As long as they are hosted online somewhere, you can directly link them using {img}image-URL-here{/img} (with [] instead of {}).

Marm can you give me that whole [img] string so I can see it. I am considering the photobucket type service to get around resizing all this stuff for the forum. I can shoot a 3 mega pixel shot (newer camera) but when I want to post it I have to use an old camera and set it to it's lowest setting. Can we "photo bucket" in and out of our own picture galleries? on topic, of course but that would be cool if we could. Ralph talked about bring up an ftp site recently - would that be the route if it were to happen?

You can use your old camera ... and then use "Pixresizer" http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm to bulk-resize all the images. This way you get to keep the high res originals and upload smaller (image size and filesize) version for sharing. Then again, maybe I misunderstood what you said?!

OK, bkdu! That would be faster. It's the newer cam that will shoot 3mp - the old one at its lowest setting is just under the threshold for the forum so I can go from card-reader to forum in one leap - which is ok. But if I want archive anything for my own shop I want it to be in hi-res so I have maximum options for manipulating it later. This means I get to shoot the same shot with two cameras. Shooting everything with the newer cam and resizing the bulk lot would make much more sense. Thanks! I'm just starting to check this out!

My camera is 10mp so my pics are waaaayy oversize for this forum. But Photobucket allows you to resize them. I just discovered this when putting up pics of my bike. Pretty easy to do to, it asks you what size you want and you click on the magic button. Hey presto, smaller pic!!! So you can take one high resolution pic to print or whatever, and then just resize for the forum.

So guys, can you save these smilies to your PC, or am I on the wrong track?

Nope, you can't save the smilies locally. You always have to use the little box - or know a shitload of code off the top of your head.

When you post to photobucket I say bigger is better! I like to put the pictures in an editor and enlarge for a better view, change colors, the more pixels the better. Posting the thumbnails below the message is cool but only half the ball game. They're nice to refer to while you're reading but then it would be cool to have the 10Mp link to look at the photo in greater detail. Like what you did with your recent posting. With that all said. It would be really cool to be able to assemble shots into the text and text around the shots but I don't know how to do that - yet. I think the little buttons up there ^ will do it.

No reason to save them. You can, but not really needed. Assuming your on a PC and not a Mac system (Dunno how different they are), right click on the smilie, then hit properties. Copy the link that it shows, that's the link for it. Insert your forums image tag properties, and presto - you got a smilie.

I tried that and it works for a couple days and then the links change. I think it's got something to do with the site maintenance but the links do go dead.

Hey guys, if you still want to add smilies it's really easy for me to do. Post them up, I copy to my computer, then upload them with vBulletin. Takes about a minute per. Don't overload me though, and nothing too non-PC.

I know, you would think there would be a way around that, or at least you would think people would be more mature...dunno...LOL

I am trying to use them on another forum Greg, that is what I am on about. I found out I can save each one as an internet "favourite" and then load each web link onto another forum as a pic image, and that works.

As long as the links don't change as Nuhawk suggests it should be ok.

Bit of stuffing about, but worth it for the dancing banana!

Yeah, each vB smilie page is customized for each forum. If it's not vB then it won't work, and if it is vB then you have to hope the code is the same. Like you said, the best bet is to save the link to the smilie and just paste it.

Just added this one - I think it's pretty cool. And as much as I despise line dancing, I think this is pretty funny.
