So the goober that had one of my VTR's before me put some 3/8 bolts into the top of the gas tank where it is held into the frame he also threw out all the old mounting gromets and spacers. I wanted to put some locking inserts into the frame to return the bike to stock mounts. Anyone ever do this? Is there enough meat to drill and tap for 10mm threaded inserts? I want something beefier than helicoils.

 

I would just use Helicoils. That way you don't have to drill such a big hole.
