Prospective SH owner saying hello...
Hello - I am shopping for an older SH due to my current financial situation and was looking at a 98 Hawk with about 3000 miles on it. If all goes well, plan on picking this one up in a month or so (closing on a home first)
I was hoping y'all could tell me things to look out for on an older SH and what I should plan on replacing....Cam tensioners was mentioned somewhere when I searched, but I couldnt find more info.
I have been a SV1000 and SV10000s rider for long and worried about the carb dealie as I do want to do pipes/intake on it as I long for that v-twin rumble yet again! Any advice related to this will help as well...
Anyways, please point me in the right direction if anything, even.
Thanks a lot and hope to be a part of this community soon!

With only 3k miles, I wouldn't worry about dealing with CCT's for a while.
Other than checking the usual stuff on a bike that hasn't been ridden over the years, check out the charging loop; battery and r/r. Battery should have 12.7v at rest and 13.5-15.5v at 5k rpm.

Thanks, guys. I look forward to buying one and start modding it - LOL.
Quick exhaust questions -
1) Now, does anyone make a 2-1 system like M4 did for the SV? That was some serious weight reduction and well worth the money!
2) If answer to #1 is no - Sounds like Jardine race pipes are the way to go?
I have heard good about 2 Bros and Leo Vince as well..
I know that CF cans will not do so well on the V-twins - the heat and vibration destroys them. If I can I would like to do Ti cans.
If I could afford the akra system, that'd be awesome.

If you can afford a full system then stick the money into buying a new nicer bike and not the exhaust. Just my opinion.
Hope all goes well happy hunting.

Providing an update
Well, I went and looked at her this weekend . He had the front and rear set on full soft and it seems to dive down a bit. It ran hard, shifted well and no other issues. He has done routine maintainence on it seems in great shape with about 24xx miles on it.
Also, I put money down - so, its mine. Yaaaay!
I pick her up in a month - the day after I close on my new home. Divorce sucks, people. I hope no one has to go thru that on their own. The SH should provide a good outlet to forget my problems and enjoy the ride!

Mine isnt final. We havent filed yet, I am waiting for my home to get built and then I can move. The day after I close, I am buying it...I cannot wait. I gave up riding among other things for her, screw that.
Sorry to go off-topic and rant, guys!

To answer the exhaust question, Moriwaki makes a very nice full Ti system for the S-hawk. I have the one with street baffles. Still pretty freakin loud, but I like it. They can still be had out there...

Good luck with both the bike and the divorce...

Super nice exhaust, sir!
I finally picked up my SH this weekend. Trailered her home safely from Kansas. Got plates and insurance yesterday. I will ride it this weekend hopefully, I should be able to move into my new duplex this weekend and start living there.

You said the bike dives a lot. Changing the suspension settings really won't change that much, if at all. You gotta put springs in for your weight. Changing the valving on the shim stack or adding compression gold valves would also be a smart thing to do.
