thanks for the input guys. I will now change to synthetic. bike has 26k like to see a lot more. oh and by the way kickin chicken i said superhawk newby not bike newby, pay attention.lol

Just make sure it's a sunny day, you don't want water in there.

You are correct. That's why you ride around the first day with the filler cap removed. That way the bike can get rid of what it doesn't want. It chooses it's own best fluid level. I do this with brake and clutch fluid too.
Just make sure it's a sunny day, you don't want water in there.

But the proper way is loose 1 of your bolt from lower pan and let oil slowly drip out

WOW.. I never thought of that... this way, when it gets low.. just add more new oil.. NEVER HAVE TO CHANGE IT AGAIN!!! plus the chain will get proper lubrication also.. not to mention how easy burn outs will be..

I was worried when I first read this that someone was asking what the best oil was. I was like, "nooooooooooo!" and it was even in the slow-mo voice.
The other thing that is cracking me up, is the suggestions. I once had a student put 9qts in his mom's durango. Unfortunately it only takes 5. He told me it would be alright. I said, good, what the hell do I know.
I also have had a teacher repeatedly run her car out of oil. When we "top" it off with 4 additional qts to her zero, she thinks its wise to leave it in there, stating " I feel so bad, that oil has been waiting millions of years to do its job, shouldn't we just leave it in there?"
I can't make this up, and yes, I think they both are idiots.

Smart man...Buuut part of the appeal of this forum to me is that when question comes up, that most of the time can't really be called a "dumb question" but the answear or how to get the answear is beyond obvious... Then friendly banter breaks ut...
And No, none of the crazy suggestions where such that anybody would actually take them serious...

Nope, tweety, she is in the Communications (better known as English) department. That poor little toyota corolla. Never new what was coming when it was born. I keep telling here it is sacrilege to do such a thing, but she doesn't get it. It's as if she believes that the car should run to the manufacturers specified intervals without any cre on her part. Problem is, she didn't watch oil levels, and continually went beyond intervals. She has, in the life of the vehicle while I have known her, run it out (completely, oil light on) twice, and continued to drive it. On many other occasions we have take two to three quarts to "top it off". Now it burns at least a qt every 1000, if not more. She is pissed at the car like its the manufacturers fault.

Actually it's the norm for people to believe that a car should run x miles as in the specifications with out any more work than adding fuel... I have yet to find one car that does so without some small maintenance... Checking oil at regular interwalls is one thing... But when the little light comes on, you might wanna ask yourself why...

Oh... I'm NOT expecting people to treat their cars or bikes like I treat mine, but some common sense would probably help... I ride and drive them like a nutter but they get more than regular checkups and service... Way beyond what the "spec" calls for...
There is one girl living in the same apartment block that I have helped a few times with her car old car, which was severly mistreated... So then she bought a brand spanking new Mazda RX-8 little over a year ago... And now she has managed to molest it to the point where it spilled all the transmisson oil in the parking lot a few weeks ago... 4000 rpm and CERUNCH into reverse... poor car... It miraculously survived the same procedure some 6-7 times before finaly dying... Then it was revealed that she has either skipped the recommended factory services since getting it or doing them to late... So no warranty...
