Skip that old skool oil stuff and go synthetic: coco butter! Yum.

Oh, congrats and welcome to the site.

Knuckleheads! You want a oil with a high flash point. Something like peanut oil.

You guys are all wrong! go with something thats time tested and true.... USED diesel oil! You know it kept the last engine going so why not yours. seems to make sense to me somehow...

Welcome to the forum !!
As for oil, it's sooo 2007, fashion of the day is to pack the engine with grease taking all the cover off and be done with it !!

Alright, alright...

If you couldn't tell we don't get this question very often. So when it gets asked we take the opportunity to make jokes at the questioners expense.

The real answer is to use anything vegetable based. It has a higher flash point and makes your bike smell like McDonalds fries.

Or you could try whatever the owners manual calls for, just stay away from anything with "extended life". Those have additives that are really bad for the engine and clutch. Try and change the oil every 2-3000 miles.

(that last part was serious)

Welcome!

I like to save up my hair oil. It takes a while, but by the time you have enough... it's time to change it in the bike. Though, now that my hair is falling out.. it takes longer.

Can you tell everyone is tired of oil questions?

K&N air filter oil works best for me. Nice and tacky, holds the dirt particals away from the bearings quite well.

I'm with drew c14 on the vegetable based stuff. But whatever you do, use something low in trans fats. If you use a high trans fat oil, all the gears in the transmission (the trans) will get really big (fat) and the cases will swell and split open and spill oil and transmission parts all over your garage floor. Don't ask me how I know.

Seriously, I use Mobil 1 15W-50 in all my vehicles and it rocks!

When I pull it outta the SH after 3K miles it's always nice enough to reuse in my smoker. Smoked mullet tastes best with a little chain lube to help it go down...

I quit using oil years ago.

I use Soul-Glo for anything and everything that needs lubricant....

Yoiu don't know 'cause you are new, but guys are having fun at your expense 'cause "best oil" has been beaten to death on the site, and the archives are full of it.

Any "motorcycle specific" oil will work fine, from $3.29/quart Valvoline to high end synthetics for $10-$15 per quart.

Most "car oils" have reduced zinc and phosphorous and are inadequate for bikes. The exception is Mobil 1 15w50, which virtually everybody agrees is a great, reasonably priced choice for most bikes.

For cheap ***** like myself, a good 15w40 universal (aka diesel) is as good as anything. The most popular is Shell Rotella, which is available at Chi-Com Mart for under $9 per gallon. I personally use Super Tech 15w40 which a local Walmart sells for $1.48 per quart.

10w30 probably isn't a good idea. Owner's manual OKs it, but only for ambient temps below 80 degrees F, and it can't be "energy conserving", but virtually all 10w30 is energy conserving.

KY Jelly is old school and clogs the filter. Use Astroglide.

Seriously, I use 10w40 Pro Honda. 16.99 per gallon at the dealer, less any discount you can get.
