Good R/R types on fleabay?
Does anyone know if this type R-1 RR is reliable?

I see R-1 R/Rs for anything from $20 to $150 tonight. If this was something easily disassembled I am OK with component level electronic repair, but in a sealed & potted black box, I don't know what to trust.
Any recomendo's , advice, experience appreciated.

I would go with this, I know Rick's has a good rep, also what I have on my SHawk. It's made for an earlier model year, but still a brand new component. Just get you some new connections from easternbeaver.

It's a very simple repair. If you were to get a direct replacement it would be plug and play. with the R1 swap you just gotta get the right connections and it's till pretty much plug and play. It's just bolted to the sub frame under the tail section. Just take tail off, unbolt, unplug, re bolt, re plug.

I got one off of ebay from an 07 ZX10 and thought the price was fair but have since browsed the Ninja forum and found better deals through their forum (25 dollars). Wish I would have thought to check other forums first. You always get better deals from fellow riders that are more interested in helping someone out rather than someone who usually puts it on ebay to make a profit.
Also keep your eye out for a Mosfet style those are the ones you want.

Not the style I would go with,,,, And no need to spend on a aftermarket branded NEW.
OEM used something like a FH010AA from a 07 Yamaha YZF R1 can be had for just a few $$.

I bought a brand new one from a Canadian firm called RMStator. Google them and you'll find it easily. It fit perfectly and works great. No need to do any modification to the harness, plug it in and go. I also used some heat sink grease on the backside to aid in heat disbursement.

Mainly it seems there's growing opinion that an FH prefix in the part number is desirable. MOSFET component design vs SCR, for better voltage management to prevent cooking batteries prematurely. So now I am on a hunt for FH010 thru FH012. These still seem to command higher price than comparable SH010 etc. Eastern Beaver posted some background info on this issue at his site.

Still an unsealed gang style plug.
Still more $ then a good used modern FH010 (or this style).

to the quoted poster.Getting a plug and play one is not a wrong choice, if thats what you want and understand what your getting (or not getting).
Information and choices.. thats all this is.

Keep looking if you have the time... I had bids on three at under $50, paid $42 for the one I won. Add $19 for a connector set from Eastern Beaver and a few $ in wire and for under $70 I had what I wanted.

Still I appreciate the fact that anyone responds to the thread with ideas, insights, experience and Scott's recommendation might help someone who really just needs plug n play. Hopefully this current discussion benefits more newbs than me. Seems like I read a "New Superhawk owner" post almost every day. IMHO this is all good. Thanks again to everyone who took the time to share.

I bought an old Yam one for $45 off an R1/R6 and it is really tight under the cowl and will require some modding (cut down a few fins). The best one to get is the FH012 model but it looks larger to me than the earlier R1 model and may not fit.
If you are going to buy one of these this guy sells them brand new for $85. $119 for the complete kit. I haven't bought one but as soon as someone tells me that they fit I will.

Not knowing the history of the used part. I decided to go new. In checking around I finally settled on RonAyers.com. They had a new Yamaha R6 R/R (Yam # 4JH-81960-01) for $70 + S&H. This was a much better price than anything new I could find on eBay (at the time I looked).
