Notheast Newbie

Ey guys I just purchased a 98' SH with 17k miles on it. It's in pretty good shape. Only mod I know of is K&N filter and brake lines. It also has a cargo rack and hard bag that attaches . I bought The bike off Ebay. Drove 2 hours to get it and the bike didn't want to idle. I rode it, got up to speed but it stalled when I let off the gas. It's in my garage right now. I guess tommorow I'll clean the carbs and replace the plugs. The PO only put 2,000 miles on it since 01' so I suspect gummed carbs. Ill be hunting for exhaust and seat and lower cowls.

Welcome!

Your stalling could be to much air. If you have a K&N but no re-jet then you are probably way lean.

Wow, you really think it would need to be jetted with just a K+N? Any one running one with stock jets?

Where in Rhode Island?

Where are the pics of your new bike?

And yes, most everyone on here will tell you that just a K&N can affect the Superhawk. Finnicky carbs.

My '02 has a K&N with stock jetting and never had any idle or stalling problems. I did however shim the needles with a #4 brass washer after running with the K&N for a while and would suggest at least doing that while you are in there anyways.

Bad news. I got the carbs out. The slow jets were clogged, got them cleaned up. Thought It was smooth sailing after that, just put her back together. NOPE, I broke the stupid choke plastic piece and starter valve on one of the carbs. I am so aggravted. And I found how expensive they are. Dammit I just want to ride.
