Hey...Just joined the forum, but I've had my SH since new in 1998. My previous bike was an FZR400 (talk about night and day). Every year I consider selling the SH to get something else, but every year I end up keeping it. There's something about it that I just don't get tired of. Just a few mods: CBR900RR forks, Heli bars, SS brake lines, Corbin Smuggler seat, High mount M4 exhaust, and that's about it.

I see everyone's got inverted forks off a 954 or RC. I did my forks years ago when the CBR900RR forks were the popular choice. Are the inverted ones that much better for the cost? My conversion cost me about 150.00 USD about 5-6 years ago and it really seemed to sharpen up the performance. Am I missing out on something by not having inverted forks? Is the upgrade that much better?

I'm located in Corpus Christi TX right now. Not a single good road anywhere near here. They're all straight and flat. I left Minneapolis MN for the warm weather, water, and palm trees here-but didn't expect to have nowhere worthwhile to ride. Thankfully I'm moving to San Antonio TX in March. Hello, Hill Country! If there's a member in San Antonio that knows where time is best spent, please let me know.

Out of curiosity, just how different did your front end conversion make?

The 900RR forks are shorter than the stock SH items..also, the 900RR forks are 45mm and the SH are 41mm...and the 900RR forks are fully adjustable (preload, rebound and compression)

There is less dive under breaking and the bike is a bit quicker to turn in and also feels a bit more planted...it's not a night/day change, but it's there and it didn't cost much at all. Well worth it, I think.

I should add, I did change to tapered head bearings with the fork swap...that may explain the more 'planted' feeling in the corners. Ideally, I should have made one change at a time to see which items bring about each difference in feel. Either way, I like the end result.

Welcome to the forum!... I had the FZR400's bigger brother the FZR600 years back... The 400 was a nice little bike.

Welcome Jbeber! I considered a fork swap and as far as I could tell the cost would be more than twice what you paid for yours 5 years ago, so I've pretty much decided to go with stronger springs instead.
