Newbie with some Super Hawk questions

I read something about problems with this bike's cam chain tensioners. How serious is this?

Do a search on CCT and you should come up with multiple threads on the topic.

I did a search on CCT and got nothing. Did a better search and got this:

https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...hain+Tensioner

So from what I can tell, Honda may or may not have re-designed the cam chain tensioners. No one knows when this was done. It should be checked or replaced on your bike at around 30,000 miles, give or take. Maybe as "soon" as 20,000 miles. You may elect to go with the manual type tensioner, APE being the most popular brand. Failing to make this upgrade could result in a costly repair.

As a reward for my good research, I have two questions that did not get answered in my search:

Do later model Hawks have a revised CCT design, and therefore avoid this problem?

Who difficult is it to install APE CCT's, and how often do they need to be adjusted.

Thanks! As you all know by now, my '03 is too pretty to suffer engine damage anyway.

SlowHAWK is an unknown quantity at this point
As for how long the stock CCT's last.... it seems to be completely random, some say they are just fine and will last 20K-30K... I've seen posts where people claim the let go after a couple K's.

As for the APE's.... I just installed a set a few weeks ago (I fell to the peer pressure and web hype that it could happen to me, plus i like to screw around with the bike). The install isn't too bad, if you have the Honda manuals, take the time and double check what you do, AND are reasonably mechanically inclined and have the tools, it's not hard at all. Otherwise, when you bring your bike in for the valves to be checked 16K, ask them to do it then, as they will have the bike apart, and they shouldn't charge you much if anything to do it then.

As for adjustment, from other posts, sounds like 1 time a year, or if you start hearing things... I'll let you know if I ever have to adjust.

(My bike had 16K, and I put them in.. Did it when I checked the valves.... although there was no sign there was anythign wrong with them before replacement.)
