Newb in Utah

Greetings. Thought I'd be polite and introduce myself. Have had a SH for almost 2 years, but it sat till this spring when www.MillerMotorsportspark.com opened. The SH has been on track half a dozen times, and I am so happy with it. Seems to just be "the" bike for me when I want HP's on the track.:-D (also ride a vfr400)

I am going to have to start modding it in a couple months, as the pegs seem to be getting lower every track day, and brakes could use some help too. It came to me with a Fox out back, and race tech front, so that's all good.

slo1,

Welcome to the forum. Yes, the VTR is a great track bike, at least until you get fast on it, then it requires some pretty extensive mods to get it to handle great. Almost better to get something newer and more track oriented. Try adding some ride height to that Fox of yours. That should gain you a few extra degrees of lean angle. Also, don't forget to hang off.

Howdy...must be nice to have a track at your disposal. Then again, the money I'm saving by not getting hooked to the track can buy a lot of things. (This is what I tell myself anyways so I don't get jealous...)

It's actually almost an hour away The track has open days for $150 a day for bikes (250 for cars) but only a couple a month. There are also alot of orgs that do them, NESBA was just here, Apex, Cascade, etc. Those are usually closer to $200, or more for the full 4.5 mile course. With the SH the full track means gassing up afew times.

Amazingly tires have not been an issue. Pilot Powers seem to last forever, as long as they are run at the right pressure. Haven't gotten hard core enough for race rubber yet.

I'll get some pics posted when things slow down a bit.

Another Ut eh, we've got a bunch welcome aboard. I go through tires at my track like they were made of.....well like they were made of rubber. The track I go to has at least 2, 3 day weekends a month and if you preregister it's $125. I've gone through 6 maybe 7 sets of tires in 14 months or so. A lot has to do with temp. and track surface.

WOW, I would not be able to handle a three day weekend of track riding, yet. I was shot for two days after last thursdays outting, which was about 5 hours of riding time. No sessions, open track, about 25 total riders :-D . At the price you pay I would probably give it a try though.

Hmmm, that came out wrong, it's $125 a day but only $99 for mon, oh and it's a motorcycle ONLY track so that's a +. I usually only do 2 days otherwise I'd really be smokin some tires up. I do 2 because the track I go to is about 5.5 hours away so I want as much time as I can. I've got 2 tracks that are MUCH closer but one SUCKS and neither one has that many track days.

The only days Miller has cars and bikes alternating are open days, 2 sessions. They do tell the car guys that if they spray the track with crap from running wide or inside turns the clean up comes out of their session time

If you get up this way some day, let me know and you can take the SH out on the "best" track in the USA:-D (probably comming next year, WSB). Star is here next month.

That one is on my list, as well as mid Ohio, and Barber of course. Thinking about a 2-3 week swing through the East next summer/fall, and hitting 4 or 5 tracks:-D I can say I'm visiting relatives

If you do the swing let me know I may be living in the Atlanta area and there's about 5-6 tracks within 4 hours there. Barber being one of them, then Atlanta motor speedway, Tally, Carolina motorsports, Jennings, and a new one being built in Jacksonville FL..... Jennings NEVER lets cars on so you don't get that rippled pavement coming into the corners.

I would have to if I want to stay with the company I work for. Believe me it's not something I'm really excited about. I probably won't go but I have to keep all my options open.

Agreed, especially when we have less than a dozen good roads for local rides. You can get "there" from here, Colo, Idaho, etc, but it's all about a days ride away. That said, it's great if you like to ride the track, some AMA folks have moved here for that reason this year.

Utah is however a desert. It is usually pretty brown around here But that also means it has over 300 days of sunshine :-D .

Other upsides, world class snowboarding 1/2 hour from the house, almost year round riding if you have heated grips and vest , and stunning mountains in the back yard, not like your hills.
